Josh Thole Fails to Make Blue Jays

Josh Thole was informed yesterday that he will begin the season in Triple-A after he lost out on the Toronto Blue Jays backup job to Henry Blanco, or as Matt Falkenbury likes to say, Hank White. Thole, or as I knew him as “Mr. Ground Ball to Second Base”, was average at best after the Mets gave him a shot to be the everyday catcher. He showed sparks with the bat at times, but...

Thole, Nickeas Not Making the Major League Roster

R.A. Dickey brought two personal catchers with him to Toronto in Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas and it has become apparent today that neither will be making the major league roster once the team breaks camp at the end of the week. This is obviously more surprising for Josh Thole, who despite his poor hitting for the last couple of years, there was hope a few seasons ago that he could...

Blue Jays option Ricky Romero to minors, J.A. Happ in rotation

Just two years ago Ricky Romero was a 15 game winner for the Toronto Blue Jays who posted an ERA under 3.00, on Tuesday he was optioned to the minor leagues. The Toronto Blue Jays have awarded the fifth spot in their rotation to J.A. Happ. Happ, a left-hander, compiled a 1.89 ERA and a 14/3 K/BB ratio this spring in 19 innings of work. Happ made 28 appearances with the Blue Jays...

Blue Jays rumors: Brett Lawrie to start season on DL

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without one of their better young players when the season gets under way in a little under a week.  Brett Lawrie is dealing with a strain in his rib cage that kept him out of World Baseball Classic play.  Now the injury will cause him to miss some time during the regular season. John Lott of the National Post says Lawrie will begin the season on...

Will demotion help Jays' Romero?

He could be Roy Halladay. He could be Dontrelle Willis. His organization, his teammates and his family will do all they can to support him. But Ricky Romero's future is in the hands of Ricky Romero. The Toronto Blue Jays sent Romero to Class A Dunedin Tuesday, which was both utterly shocking and not surprising at all; shocking because Romero made the All-Star team in 2011, not...

Blue Jays 6, Pirates 3

Rajai Davis and Adam Lind hit solo home runs, helping the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. With the score tied at 3, Davis led off the bottom of the fourth inning with his third spring home run. Lind opened the sixth with his second exhibition shot. Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero gave up two earned runs on six hits and three walks in 4...
