Omar Vizquel hit a pair of sacrifice flies, including one in the ninth inning that lifted the Toronto Blue Jays over the free-falling Boston Red Sox 4-3 on Sunday. Toronto entered the series in last place in the American League East but left Fenway Park two games ahead of the Red Sox. The Blue Jays have won four straight overall and six in a row against Boston. Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia homered for the Red Sox, who have lost four in a row and 10 of 11. Reliever Brandon Lyon (2-2) got the win and Casey Janssen picked up his 20th save. Boston got a strong start from Clay Buchholz (11-6) but failed to give him much run support. Buchholz allowed four runs on seven hits over 8 2-3 innings, retiring 13 straight batters before Rajai Davis blooped a single with one out in the ninth. Davis promptly stole his 41st base and took third on a single by rookie Anthony Gose, who hit his first career homer Saturday night and drove in five runs. Embattled Boston manager Bobby Valentine...

Ryan Kalish, Cody Ross Getting Hotter as Red Sox Look to Beat Off Blue Jays

Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. The Red Sox' bats have been just about as cold as they can be over recent weeks. Even Dustin Pedroia, who had a 15-game hitting streak and was keeping the Sox afloat amidst a dreadful West...

Dustin Pedroia Collects 400th Career RBI But Can't Enjoy Milestone After Another Loss

BOSTON -- With a fielder's choice in the fifth inning, Dustin Pedroia achieved a feat. Pedroia was out at first, but the run that crossed home plate was Pedroia's 400th career RBI. But he couldn't celebrate the accomplishment -- nor did he care to -- after Boston lost 7-5 to Toronto. "I didn't even know that," Pedroia said of the accomplishment. "We...

John Lackey Impresses With Poise, 'Really Good' Breaking Ball After Throwing Batting Practice

BOSTON -- For the first time in nearly a year, John Lackey took the mound at Fenway Park. Unfortunately for the hurler, it was only to toss batting practice and not pitch against the Blue Jays. The Red Sox have had a pretty rough stretch over the past 10 games, going a brutal 1-9 over that time. But that sole win came behind the powerful left arm of Jon Lester. Lester, who has had a pretty rough go of it this season, has finally put together a nice run of outings and it showed once again on Tuesday in Seattle. The Seattle, Wash. native was making his only homecoming appearance...

BOSTON -- Back spasms have resulted in Jarrod Saltalamacchia's latest setback. During the seventh inning of the series opener against the Blue Jays, the catcher left the game and was replaced by Ryan Lavarnway. A day later, Lavarnway received the starting nod over Saltalamacchia. "Salty is going to rest all day today and not take batting practice," Red Sox manager Bobby...

Nearly two weeks ago, Ortiz received the shot to alleviate pain in his injured Achilles...

The sweep knocked the Red Sox into last place in the American League East and moved the Blue Jays into fourth place. It's not much when you consider the hot race...
