Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Texas Rangers 3-1 on Thursday night. The slumping Rangers wasted another solid outing by Yu Darvish, who has made five consecutive starts without a victory. Neal Cotts (2-1) replaced Darvish to start the eighth, when Emilio Bonifacio reached on a throwing error by Gold Glove third baseman Adrian Beltre. Munenori Kawasaki had a sacrifice bunt before Tanner Scheppers, the second reliever, walked Jose Bautista before the double to left-center by Encarnacion broke the 1-all tie. Esmil Rogers (2-2) allowed one run over seven innings, the same as Darvish, who struck out nine to up his major league-leading total to 127. Casey Janssen worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save. Darvish allowed only three hits and walked two, but threw 110 pitches to get through seven innings. Since his last victory May 16 against Detroit, Darvish lost 1-0 to Oakland and has gone four games in a row...

The Bloom Is Off Brett Lawrie’s Rose

In 150 at-bats back in 2011, Brett Lawrie captured our attention and imagination. “If he could hit nine homers in such a short time, Lawrie could have 30-homer potential over the course of a full season,” is likely a sentence you read before the 2012 season. It’s probably a sentence I wrote, as a matter of fact. In the season and a half since though, Lawrie has hit just 16...

Is It Time To Buy Adam Lind?

Adam Lind followed up a sublime 2011 campaign with one of the biggest flops of all time. After hitting 26 homers in 2011, he hit only 11 in 2012, and he only scored 28 runs while knocking in a measly 45. Injury clearly had something to do with it, as he only got 353 plate appearances in 2012. Regardless, Lind entered the 2013 fantasy baseball season with an ADP of the 44th first...

Rangers' Soria eager to face major leaguers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Joakim Soria will make his Texas Rangers debut in Arlington Friday. Of course Soria will only be facing hitters in a batting practice session, but it's a big step towards making his real debut for the Rangers. Kinsler could begin rehab assignment Thursday

ARLINGTON, Texas Jeff Baker got his first start of the season at second base for the Texas Rangers Wednesday night. He shouldn't get used to playing there. Regular second baseman Ian Kinsler went through a full workout Wednesday and could begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco as soon as Thursday, which could result in him returning to the Texas lineup as early as Sunday...

Baseball continues to be bond that ties Ryan family

ARLINGTON, Texas Nolan Ryan had plans to be the kind of father who was around a lot on Father's Day. Ryan thought he'd retire from baseball in his early 30s and then take up coaching sons Reid and Reese through their Little League days. Of course that didn't happen as Ryan ended his Hall of Fame career with 324 victories and 5,714 strikeouts at the age of 46. That...

Another bad offensive night derails Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas manager Ron Washington said Wednesday night that an opponent scoring five runs against the Rangers usually isn't a bad thing. It is these days. Cleveland scored five runs off starter Nick Tepesch and that was more than enough offense as the Indians won the series with a 5-2 victory over the Rangers. Texas has scored just 36 runs in its 11 June games...

Rangers 2B Kinsler cleared to start rehab games

Texas Rangers second baseman and leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler has been cleared to begin a rehabilitation assignment. Kinsler, out since May 18 with bruised ribs, went through a full workout with the Rangers before Wednesday night's game against Cleveland. He took batting practice and did defensive drills with no problems. The Rangers say Kinsler will play at least three games...

Rangers infielder Jeff Baker sprains thumb giving high five?

Texas Rangers infielder Jeff Baker wasn't in the lineup Friday night because of a sprained right thumb. This in and of itself isn't newsworthy. However, the manner in which Baker injured himself certainly is.Baker was unable to grip a bat Friday after receiving an "over-the-top high-five" from one of his teammates during pregame handshakes Thursday. This is according...

Fans Love Them Some Yu Darvish Bobbleheads!

We always want to call these things early in the season, but after 13 starts, a 7-2 record, a 2.75 ERA, coming within a batter of a perfect game, and a MLB leading 118 strikeouts (including five game with 10+) it may be safe to make the call. Yu Darvish is not going to have a sophomore slump--and the fans are loving it! Many of the 40,000+ that made Tuesday's game against...
