This is probably as amicable a goodbye as it gets. The Blue Jays announced earlier today that they have DFA’d veteran corner infielder Mark Teahen, eating the remainder of his $5.5 million salary for the 2012 season so that he may find a job elsewhere. The move opens up a spot for the addition of 41-year old lefty Darren Oliver, who officially joins the Toronto bullpen with a new $4M deal, the largest contract the Alex Anthopoulos has given to a free agent to date. Even if his contract money wasn’t involved, this is the best-case scenario move for the 30-year old Teahen, who came over in the Rasmus trade last year, and doesn’t have a fit with the team this year. His contract would have made him difficult to move, and Teahen responded in kind earlier today on being given the opportunity to find work elsewhere, saying that Anthopoulos was “a man of his word”. We’ll chalk this one up as a monetary cost involved in acquiring Colby Rasmus. Best of luck...
