Enough is enough. It is time to get Magglio Ordonez out of the 3rd spot in the Detroit Tigers’ batting order and put Brennan Boesch where he rightfully belongs.
When Magglio was coming off the DL from his ankle rehab stint I urged anyone who cared to read my article that Maggs was better suited as the #2 with Boesch cranking fastballs out of the 3rd slot in the order.
The article went on to compare the similarities that Ordonez’s now power-regressed game has to former 2-spot ace Placido Polanco. Both batters, while right-handed, have a natural ability to punch the ball to the right side to advance runners. Though not a power-hitter anymore, Maggs still boasts a tremendous contact rate and has low double-digit homer potential, much like Polanco during his run.
The logic is one thing, the stats another. Both of them beg the question: why has this switch not been made?
Take a look at Boesch’s splits from batting 2nd to when he hits 3rd in front of Miguel Cabrera.
