With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Boston Red Sox made a single move that just might push them over the top and save their season, no they did not grab another powerful bat to add to their already potent lineup and no they did not add a stud SP to help their average rotation. They added Craig Breslow. Yes, you heard me, Craig Freakin Breslow. Ben Cherington and Larry Lucchino made the one and only move they needed, a left-handed middle reliever that knows how to pitch against the Yankees.  Don’t believe me?  Let’s look at the numbers provided by

Current Yankees are hitting at a combined .234 BA .  Numbers don’t lie, adding Breslow to an already above average bullpen, coupled with the pre-season closer Andrew Bailey’s pending return, the boys from Beantown suddenly have the flexibility to add  Franklin Morales to the rotation should Josh Beckett or Jon Lester struggle to regain their ace-status forms.  Lets not forget Dice-K either, yes he is difficult to watch at times due to his inconsistency of finding home plate, but at times he is simply remarkable.

We all know that depleting your farm system of young talent to acquire a seasoned veteran for a playoff run is a risky proposition, especially if that acquisition becomes a free-agent after two months. Trading away Scott Podsednik and Matt Albers will have no such consequence for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox playoff run cannot and will not happen without Lester and/or Beckett regaining their touch, but it will certainly become easier with the one small move made on July 31,2012.   Craig Freakin Breslow.

Breslow's Red Sox debut begins a batter too late

It was precisely the type of situation for which the Boston Red Sox traded for left-handed reliever Craig Breslow. Yet Breslow didn't pitch. Yale Products Ryan Lavarnway, Craig Breslow Battle for Reputation of Smartest Guy in Red Sox Clubhouse

BOSTON –– Yale is taking over Boston's clubhouse. By acquiring reliever Craig Breslow in a trade on Tuesday for Matt Albers and promoting catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Pawtucket on Wednesday, the Red Sox received a rare infusion of Yale alumni. Breslow and Lavarnway are the only active MLB players to have come out of Yale. As a result of the distinction, Lavarnway cracked that...

Do the Red Sox Still Need Franklin Morales in the Bullpen With Craig Breslow?

Franklin Morales has been one of the best pitchers the Red Sox have had this season. He has been juggled between the starting rotation and the bullpen, and when he was thrust into the starting rotation just before the All-Star break he outperformed expectations. Now, with Tuesday's MLB trade deadline in the past, the Red Sox have some more flexibility in their bullpen. By acquiring...
