The Crazy Crabbers:
It is a slow news time of year before we start seeing the arbitration players start signing and we are still over a month away from pitchers and catcher reporting.
However Chris Haft who writes for MLB.com has a new mail bag out today really sums up a line of thinking that just drives me mad, the magnification of Spring Training stats.
Here is the question and answer that I want to look deeper at:
Where is the outfield situation headed? With Brandon Belt, Melky Cabrera and Nate Schierholtz already pretty much in place, I don't see the need for Angel Pagan. Is it possible the team trades Aubrey Huff to put Belt at first base? What can the Giants get for Huff right now? I find it hard to imagine Pagan as the fourth outfielder.

The San Francisco Giants are hoping 2011 was the beginning of great things for veteran pitcher Ryan Vogelsong. After posting mediocre numbers that led to a three-year stint in Japan, the 34-year-old returned to the United States with a vengeance this past season, posting a 2.71 ERA in 179.2 innings. The Giants rewarded that performance on Wednesday and signed Vogelsong to a two-year...
Switch-hitting outfielders Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan are the Giants' two biggest offensive additions. Not exactly Albert Pujols and Jose Reyes.
San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum headed 142 players filing for arbitration Friday and is set to ask for a record salary when figures are exchanged next week. Lincecum, a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, made $13.1 million last season, completing a two-year deal worth $23.2 million.
