ATLANTA (AP) -- Freddie Freeman and David Ross hit home runs as the Atlanta Braves made the most of their three hits to beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Thursday to avoid a sweep. Tim Hudson (8-4) helped an Atlanta bullpen that was drained by Wednesday night's 9-4 loss in 11 innings. He gave up eight hits and two runs in 7 1-3 innings to outpitch Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner. The Giants were denied their first sweep at Turner Field. They haven't swept a series of at least three games in Atlanta since 1988 at old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The NL West-leading Giants' five-game winning streak ended with their first loss since the All-Star break. They began the day a season-best three games ahead of the second-place Dodgers. The Braves were held to three hits, none after the fourth inning. Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth inning for his NL-leading 28th save. Bumgarner couldn't extend his streak of wins in seven straight decisions. Bumgarner (11-6) gave up only three hits but allowed three runs, two earned, in seven innings. He had eight strikeouts and no walks in his first loss since May 26. He fell to 4-5 away from San Francisco. Freeman led off the second inning with his 13th homer, giving him a 10-game hitting streak. The Braves scored an unearned run off Bumgarner in the third when Paul Janish reached on third baseman Pablo Sandoval's fielding error and scored on Michael Bourn's triple. Ross pushed Atlanta's lead to 3-1 in the fourth with his fifth homer, a long shot to centerfield. It was Atlanta's third and final hit of the game. Sandoval led off the second with a single and scored on a single by Emmanuel Burris. The Giants didn't score another run until the eighth when Melky Cabrera tripled and scored on Buster Posey's flyball to center, cutting Atlanta's lead to 3-2. NOTES: Giants SS Brandon Crawford, who fouled a ball off his right knee before hitting a go-ahead, three-run homer in the 11th inning on Wednesday night, started Thursday and said the knee is fine. ... The Braves are listing Ben Sheets as the starting pitcher in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Washington. Randall Delgado will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start the second game. ... The Braves open the series against the Nationals on Friday night when Tommy Hanson faces Stephen Strasburg in a matchup of 10-game winners. ... The Giants open a series at Philadelphia on Friday night with Tim Lincecum, only 3-10, facing Vance Worley.

Luis Avilan’s MLB debut!

While editing the pictures from Saturday afternoon's game, I noticed a few things. 1. Many of them came out well, because of the full sun. 2. I take more pictures when I go to games with Alison. 3. I took a LOT of pictures of Luis Avilan in his first major league game. I didn't want them to get lost in the gameday post (hello! MLB debut!), so he gets his own post... Avilan...

Atlanta Braves Players not Impressed by Melky Cabrera's Antics

Atlanta Braves fans weren't exactly the biggest supporters of Melky Cabrera during his stint with the club in 2010, and it seems the San Francisco Giants left fielder didn't make himself anymore friends during the three-game series that concluded Thursday in his first trip back to Atlanta since being released at the end of his only year with the Braves...

Chipper Jones calls out Melky Cabrera for crotch chopping again

Melky Cabrera antagonized Braves fans for the second day in a row, and this time Chipper Jones called him out for his actions. During the third inning of Tuesday’s series opener between the Braves and Giants, Cabrera did a “suck it” crotch chop to the Braves fans after making a catch. Cabrera repeated the gesture at least twice during the Giants’ 9-4 win on Wednesday....

Braves rally from 9-0 deficit, win in 11 innings

Chipper Jones has seen a lot in his 19 seasons with Atlanta. Even he hasn't seen anything like what the Braves did Friday night. Atlanta was down 9-0 after five innings with Washington Nationals star pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the mound. The Braves came back to take the lead in the top of the ninth, after the Nationals tied it Atlanta pulled out a wild 11-10 win on Paul Janish...

Melky Cabrera Gives Braves fans the DX Suck It! (Video)

Melky Cabrera gave some Atlanta Braves fans payback when he did the DX suck it to them after being taunted.  Seriously didn't want to post this being a huge Braves fan, but I'm also a huge fan of D-X so I had to respect Melky for pulling this out.  The video is below if you missed it. Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Giants 7-19-12

Huddy yoga   What kind of crazy person sits in section 105 for a noon start? This girl, and three of her twitterfriends. Jane invited Sarah, Carlie, and I to share her friend's corporate seats and we had a ton of fun! Because the sun was so blazing and there wasn't on-field batting practice, I didn't take as many pics as usual. Here are a few, though... Mike Minor was...

The Braves (51-41) signed Sheets to a minor league contract July 1 after he hadn't pitched in the majors since July 19...
