Braves extend win streak to 13 with 10-4 win against Nationals

The Atlanta Braves are approaching history with a win streak that is now 13 after a 10-4 victory against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

It's the longest win streak for a defending champion since the 1954 New York Yankees won 13 straight after winning the 1953 World Series. It'd take another five wins to match the 1953 Yankees' 18-game win streak that happened less than a year after the team won the 1952 World Series.

The streak is also close to a spot in the Braves' franchise record books. It's the team's longest since the 2013 Braves won 14 in a row, and its four away from tying the team record. The Boston Beaneaters, who eventually became the Boston Braves and then the Atlanta Braves, won 17 straight in both the 1891 and 1897 seasons.

The longest win streak for the Braves since the AL, NL merger was a run of 15 consecutive wins in 2000.

On Tuesday, the Braves hit three home runs in the first three innings to take a 7-0 lead that was too much for the Nationals to overcome. On Wednesday, the Braves will again play on the road against the Nationals with 23-year-old pitcher Spencer Strider expected to get the start for Atlanta.
