Brandon Beachy will look to extend the Braves win streak to nine when he takes to the mound in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Beachy, 26, will be making his second start for the Braves at the major league level since returning from Tommy John surgery last season. In Beachy’s first outing he allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings of work against Colorado. The Braves rebounded and won that game.
The Phillies will counter with John Lannan (3-4, 4.11) who has pitched better over the last month of action. In July Lannan was 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.
Game time is 4:05 pm EST.
The Braves should also welcome B.J. Upton back to the starting lineup from a strained right adductor suffered on July 12.
BEST OF MAXIM
Atlanta Braves outfielder B.J. Upton was activated off the disabled list and will start today against the Phillies. Upton will play center field and bat seventh. Upton went on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring injury suffered while trying to make a running catch. Catcher Gerald Laird has been placed on the disabled list with a kidney stone problem to make room for...
Imagine you're a major league player, and your manager comes to you and says, "Hey, you're being traded. This other team wanted our star player and to get the deal done we had to add you to the mix. Oh, and by the way, you're going to be playing in the shadow of a future Hall of Famer. Good luck, kid." No pressure, right? That's probably similar to what...
As Craig Kimbrel shut the door for his NL-leading 33rd save, the Braves completed their 35th come-from behind win in 2013 on, of all things, a fielder's choice. Here are three observations from the 5-4 extra-inning win:
1. Dan Uggla played the unspectacular hero, but Brandon Beachy's improved performance was the biggest takeaway
Five days ago, while making his first start...
Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 6-4 win over the Phillies the club's eighth straight victory.
1. Chris Johnson may go down as the quietest batting championrecord-setter in MLBBraves history
On Friday, Johnson tallied a solo homer and double to become the first Atlanta player in franchise history to rack up multiple hits in eight consecutive outings perfectly...
While Shelby Miller of the Cardinals has been the talk of the NL Rookie of the Year race, Julio Teheran is asking voters to give him a chance.
In the last 7 games, the Braves have put on a show for all of baseball. With their offense, defense and pitching firing on all cylinders, the Braves have been ridiculously good. In the 7 games of the home stand, they outscored opponents 51...
The Atlanta Braves have powered their way to their largest division lead in a decade.
Perhaps the NL East leaders can carry over some of that offense to a Kris Medlen start.
The right-hander will try to guide the visiting Braves to an eighth consecutive victory in Friday night's series opener against the slumping Philadelphia Phillies.
Led by two homers and five RBIs from...

Behind rookie lefthander Alex Wood, the Braves completed a sweep of the Phillies on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, winning 4-1 and dropping the Phils to a season low 11 games under .500. They now trail Atlanta by 16.5 games in the NL East.
Cliff Lee was not himself in his first start...
PHILADELPHIA – The Atlanta Braves continued their winning streak in game one of their three-game stint against the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 6-4. The victory makes eight in a row for the Braves, and two consecutive in which the opposing shortstop is ejected. Jimmy Rollins was ejected in the ninth, along with Phillies [...]
The Phillies limped into Saturday afternoon seeking their third win since the All-Star break. That’s not a typo; they’ve won only two games since the midsummer classic. John Lannan started for the Phils today, bringing his 6-1 career record against the Atlanta Braves to the hill. He was opposed by Braves starter Brandon Beachy. The […]
