For Gwinnett, Mitch Jones and Barbaro Canizares each had two hits and an RBI in a rain-shortened game. Tim Gustafson pitched four innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
Mississippi received eight solid innings from Scott Diamond, allowing just three hits and no runs, not walking any and striking out 11. Brett Butts pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. The Braves had just five hits themselves, and the lone RBI came from Alex Romero for the 1-0 win.
Myrtle Beach produced seven runs tonight. Samuel Sime and Matt Kennelly each had two hits and two RBIs. Cole Miles added two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Jose Ortegano lowered his ERA to 5.24 with five innings of two-run ball, giving up seven hits and walking two but not striking any out. Ortegano is definitely not where he needs to be at this point, allowing 13 runs and 33 hits in 22 innings. The six walks is good to see, but he only has 11 strikeouts. Ortegano isn't a strikeout pitcher but it's not good regardless.
Rome didn't fare well against Asheville tonight. The lone RBI came from Robert Hefflinger. He drove in Jordan Schafer, who went 2-4 with a double. David Hale continued to struggle, allowing four runs on nine hits in three innings, not walking any and striking out two. Hale has now allowed 43 hits and 21 runs in 23.2 innings, walking ten and striking out just 14.
