The Stunning Success of Sandy Leon

Sandy Leon. That’s the hook. I have you now. This Red Sox season has been an odd one. Jackie Bradley is an excellent hitter but his defense has taken a step back. Weird. David Ortiz is 40 and better than ever. Huh? David Price has been bad, but somehow really good too. What? Red Sox Possibly 'Airmail' Their Season Into Oblivion, 2-1

(AP Photo)Dante Alighieri, if he were alive today, would feel compelled to construct another Circle of Hell just for the Red Sox—call it, Fenwatticus. Early this morning (around 1:15 AM), Hanley Ramirez sailed a ninth-inning throw over the head of Sandy Leon—allowing the winning runs to score in a brutal 2-1 loss in Anaheim. There is so much bad stuff to talk about in this one...

Umpire catches Red Sox catcher's flying mask on play behind plate

It's not in the box score but as you can see above, umpire Jim Reynolds assisted Red Sox catcher Sandy Leon on a pop fly behind home plate on Monday. Leon chucked his mask as he pursued the ball and Reynolds caught it in stride and continued to track the play. That's teamwork, baby.

Ramirez hit a career-high three home runs — one to each part of the field, in order from right to left —...

Sandy Leon’s Offensive Success Complicates Red Sox’s Catching Situation

The backup catcher has been swinging a hot bat since being recalled from Pawtucket on June 5 after Ryan Hanigan (neck) and Blake Swihart (ankle) both went on the 15-day disabled list. But with Hanigan already nearing his return...
