Billy Bullock, a right-handed pitcher in the Atlanta Braves' minor-league system, received a 50-game suspension without pay after a second violation of the drug prevention and treatment program for a "drug of abuse," the commissioner's office announced Friday. Bullock, who is on the triple-A Gwinnett roster, will begin serving his suspension at the start of next...

Chipper Jones appears to be throwing an awful Super Bowl party

Former Atlanta Braves third basemen Chipper Jones is throwing an exclusive bash for the Super Bowl. The throwdown is slated to commence just two blocks away from the venue where the big game will occur -- the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans. However, a quick look over the event details has me believing that this is one gathering that isn't worth the hype. Here's a...

Autograph signing: Craig Kimbrel, Saturday 12/29/12

Who's going to see Kimmeh next Saturday? Catherine and I plan to go, and I need to decide what to take to have him sign. Probably the Sports Illustrated with those fab pictures of him and JV and EO. (Already have EO's scribble in that thing.) I could also take my #46 shirsey. Hmm... Should I take him a copy of this picture? It's one of my favorites. :)

Braves waiting for Dan Uggla's big season

Two years ago, when the Braves locked up Dan Uggla with a five-year, 62 million deal following a November trade, the general consensus was the team had solidified the middle of its lineup for years to come. At the time, it was the biggest payout the organization had given to a player in nearly a decade. In 2012, that contract is a headache. The power-hitting second baseman has...

Braves' search for a leadoff man continues

Unless Santa Claus brings a surprise on Christmas morning, Frank Wren's wish list won't have everything checked off. The Atlanta Braves general manager badly wanted a new leadoff hitter to replace Michael Bourn and play left field. However, now it looks as if he will have to wait until at least after New Year's Day, and he may not get one at all. Wren has explored...

Braves Rumors: Atlanta Interested in Scott Hairston

The Atlanta Braves are among the teams that are interested in free agent outfielder Scott Hairston, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. #Braves are among teams interested in OF Scott Hairston, but could be too pricey for them, esp. w/ NYY among others interested. — David O'Brien (@ajcbraves) December 21, 2012 O’Brien adds that Hairston...

Braves’ remaining trade and free agent options

With the loss of Chipper Jones, the Atlanta Braves were left with a major vacancy in their lineup—one they may not fully compensate for this winter alone. Replacing a future Hall-of-Famer, after all, is a difficult task. Gone too, presumably, is fleet-footed leadoff man Michael Bourn. Newly acquired slugger BJ Upton figures to take Chipper’s place somewhere in the middle of the...

12 Thoughts on ’12: Okay to Pay for Craig Kimbrel?Kimbrel is something special, but that doesn't make him a priority on draft day

How’s that for a short answer? But seriously, year after year we end up saying, “so and so had how many saves?” This year it was Jim Johnson and Fernando Rodney that surprised us. Next year it will be another pair of guys. Joe Nathan came back after his Tommy John struggles. Newsflash: Saves are unpredictable! It’s time for some more proof. Will picking Craig Kimbrel...
