The Atlanta Braves will not offer arbitration to reliever Peter Moylan and pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad, non-tendering both of them and allowing them to become free agents. Moylan and Conrad are free to talk with other clubs, which also leaves the door open to their returning to the club. Both were important role players and popular players within the clubhouse but both also endured tough seasons in 2011. Moylan, 33, made 2-1, with a 3.24 ERA (three earned runs in 8 13 innings), with 10 strikeouts against three walks. but the Braves' ground ball specialist was limited to 13 appearances due to a pair of injuries. In May Moylan was forced to undergo back surgery to fix a bulging disk. He had been 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in six appearances. In his six September appearances following recovery from the surgery, he was 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA, allowing a run and four hits in four innings of work. But his September would be cut short when he suffered shoulder problems, leading to arthroscopi...

Braves not offering contracts to Moylan, Conrad

The Atlanta Braves are not offering a contract to right-hander Peter Moylan, who has been one of the team's top relievers the last six years. The 31-year-old Moylan has appeared in 80 or more games in three of the last five seasons. He missed most of last season because of back surgery before needing another surgery for a torn rotator cuff and labrum. Moylan is 19-9 with a...

Braves Bid Adieu to Brooks Conrad

A slight oversight on my part, but the Atlanta Braves also bid farewell to Brooks Conrad. He was beloved by teammates for his “raw dogging”, which meant that he played with no batting gloves. He had some of the best pinch-hit moments over the past 2 seasons and was one of their best pinch-hitters altogether. He never seemed to escape his defensive collapse when he...

So Long Brooks Conrad and Thanks for the Memories

The Atlanta Braves announced yesterday they non-tendered Brooks Conrad. While the moved surprised me, I’ll admit that it makes sense. Doesn’t mean I have to like it and it doesn’t mean I won’t miss seeing Brooks in the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth, getting ready to bat by rubbing the dirt from the field on his hands. There’s a story to my family’s affection...

Braves Non-Tender Peter Moylan

There was only one player that was speculated to be non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves this year. That person was the man from down under, Peter Moylan. Moylan missed most of the 2011 season. He has had a big list of ailments since arriving with the Braves. He has had Tommy John surgery, back surgery, etc. This past year he was only able to pitch 8.1 IP. He has been a very reliable...

Braves unlikely to tender Moylan a contract

The Braves do not plan to announce which of their arbitration-eligible players have been tendered a contract before the Monday midnight ET deadline. But it still appears right-handed reliever Peter Moylan will not be tendered a contract for the 2012 season.

John Rocker’s Got a New Book

I need money T... Former Atlanta Braves pitching menace John Rocker has been a lightning rod of controversy ever since a Sports Illustrated article in 2000 ..With the controversy still strong even more than five years after a shoulder injury forced his retirement from the Major Leagues, Rocker says he’s finally getting to tell his side of his story in his memoir, Rocker: Scars...
