PLAYERS: Ken Rosenthal
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
There was talk among Atlanta Braves scouts that the team will listen to offers for left-handed reliever Jonny Venters, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Talk among scouts that #Braves will listen on Venters. Braves, though, say they love depth in their bullpen, including 3 LHs with Avilan. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 6, 2013 Despite the report, the Braves continue to tell Rosenthal that they “love” the depth they have in their bullpen, especially when it comes to their left-handed options. Beyond Venters, Atlanta has two other capable southpaws in the ‘pen; Eric O’Flaherty and Luis Avilan. Venters has spent the past three seasons with the Braves after making his major league debut in 2010. He was phenomenal over his first two years with the club, posting an ERA of 1.89 over 164 appearances. But the 27-year-old struggled last season, as he was hit hard. His ERA ballooned to 3.22, but more importantly his WHIP went all the way up to 1.517. If the Braves do elect to deal Venters, they could seek a left-handed bench bat in return. Atlanta had been said to be targeting such a player earlier this offseason. McCann making progress in shoulder rehab

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. Brian McCann took some light swings with a bat, chatting up a member of the Braves medical staff and his teenage son about their golf games as the catcher bided his time, waited to take batting practice at Champions Stadium. In the distance the team charter bus transporting McCanns teammates to another spring training game pulled off, leaving the rehabbing...

Andrelton Simmons is still an awesome defender

Check out this play from Netherlands shortstop Andrelton Simmons during their WBC matchup with Cuba last night. With one out in the top of the second inning, Cuban shortstop Erisbel Arruebarruena hit a pop up into shallow center field on the second base side of the bag. Simmons comes from out of nowhere at his shortstop position to make a sliding catch, calling off center fielder...

Maholm battles, finishes strong in outing

TAMPA -- Spring training has not offered the smoothest of sailing early on for Paul Maholm, the oft-overlooked arm in the Braves rotation heading into the 2013 season, but there are signs he's still capable of recapturing last season's career year. Maholm ran up his pitch count in Atlanta's 2-0 win over the New York Yankees, throwing out 81 pitches over four innings...

Braves shopping Jonny Venters?

The Braves have arguably the best bullpen in the major leagues but they could be open to trading some of that depth. Jonny Venters, 27, could be available on the trade block. There is “talk among scouts” that the Braves will listen to all trade offers for the left handed reliever, at-least according to Ken Rosenthal. Venters had a 3.22 ERA and 69/28 K/BB ratio in 58 2/3 innings...

O'Flaherty ready to shine for NL's best bullpen

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. When it comes to MLB 13: The Show, Eric O'Flaherty isnt one to hide his disdain. It's not just that with a player rating of 83, the video game has the Braves setup man as the lowest-ranked member of the bullpen, trailing Craig Kimbrel (99), Jonny Venters (87) and Jordan Walden (85). The left-hander's biggest beef lies with what he throws, and...

No. No No NO NO NONOOOOOOOOOO

Talk among scouts that #Braves will listen on Venters. Braves, though, say they love depth in their bullpen, including 3 LHs with Avilan. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 6, 2013 I can't. No. Stop talking about this. Jonny Venters is my favorite Brave and we CAN'T lose him. (I don't want to hear pragmatic statements about the good of the team. Those comments...
