The Braves have arguably the best bullpen in the major leagues but they could be open to trading some of that depth. Jonny Venters, 27, could be available on the trade block. There is “talk among scouts” that the Braves will listen to all trade offers for the left handed reliever, at-least according to Ken Rosenthal. Venters had a 3.22 ERA and 69/28 K/BB ratio in 58 2/3 innings last season. While the Braves may be willing to listen to offer that hardly means they plan to trade a key piece such as Venters. And why would they? Venters in front of Craig Kimball has been and is expected to be one of the best end of game punches in baseball. Another problem with trading Venters is getting fair-market value. While Venters certainly has the stuff to close, he has not done so in Atlanta. Despite having all the other numbers there has been a reluctance among teams to trade away too much for players without saves. Compounding this is the health of teams that expect to be contenders. Braves' battle at third base too close to call

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. Juan Francisco sat on a bench in the visitors' locker room in Tradition Field, wearing a pair of Beats By Dre headphones and bobbing his head along as he intently watched a video on his iPad. Francisco was taken out of his trance by Chris Johnson, the player with whom he's competing to be Chipper Jones replacement at third base. They smacked hands...

Maholm battles, finishes strong in outing

TAMPA -- Spring training has not offered the smoothest of sailing early on for Paul Maholm, the oft-overlooked arm in the Braves rotation heading into the 2013 season, but there are signs he's still capable of recapturing last season's career year. Maholm ran up his pitch count in Atlanta's 2-0 win over the New York Yankees, throwing out 81 pitches over four innings...

O'Flaherty ready to shine for NL's best bullpen

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. When it comes to MLB 13: The Show, Eric O'Flaherty isnt one to hide his disdain. It's not just that with a player rating of 83, the video game has the Braves setup man as the lowest-ranked member of the bullpen, trailing Craig Kimbrel (99), Jonny Venters (87) and Jordan Walden (85). The left-hander's biggest beef lies with what he throws, and...

No. No No NO NO NONOOOOOOOOOO

Talk among scouts that #Braves will listen on Venters. Braves, though, say they love depth in their bullpen, including 3 LHs with Avilan. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 6, 2013 I can't. No. Stop talking about this. Jonny Venters is my favorite Brave and we CAN'T lose him. (I don't want to hear pragmatic statements about the good of the team. Those comments...

Aaron Hill vs Dan Uggla - Who Would You Rather Have?

Second base lost one of its best this offseason when the Tampa Bay Rays signed Kelly Johnson, shifting Ben Zobrist to the outfield.  The top of the rest of the best are injury prone and while their upside is high, I just find them to risky to draft in the early rounds.  Keith ranked Aaron Hill just a single slot higher than Dan Uggla, but Average Draft Position is showing them...

What’s B.J. Upton‘s normal home run total? Umm, we’ll get back to you on that.In his six mostly full seasons, Upton has hit 24, 9, 11, 18, 23, and 28 homers. His HR/FB rates have been 19.8%, 7.4%, 6.8%, 11.0%, 14.1%, and 16.7%. His fly ball rates used to sit in the 30s, but over the last three years he’s been in the low-40s. But while his power numbers have been inconsistent...

Braves 2, Yankees 0

Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla escaped a scary incident without serious injury. Uggla says he is fine after getting hit by a pitch in the back of the neck during the sixth inning of the Braves' 2-0 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. ''There's a little sensation,'' Uggla said. ''I'm good. Luckily, I never went black or anything...
