The Braves have announced that Tom Glavine will have his number 47 retired and be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame on August 6 of this year.

Glavine recorded 245 of his 305 career wins during his 19 seasons with the Braves and is currently employed by the Braves as an announcer and as a special assistant to Atlanta team president John Schuerholz.

A key player for the Braves when the team ran off an unprecedented streak of fourteen consecutive division titles from 1991-2005, Glavine was a two-time National League       Cy Young Award winner and pitched eight scoreless innings of one-hit baseball the night the Braves defeated the Cleveland Indians to win the 1995 World Series.

Glavine’s number 47 will be the seventh number retired by the organization and will join Hank Aaron’s number 44, Eddie Mathews’ number 41, Warren Spahn’s number 21, Phil Niekro’s number 35, Dale Murphy’s number 3, and Greg Maddux’s number 31 as    numbers that have been retired by the Braves.
