Breaking News - Buster Posey has come to terms on a contract extension with the San Francisco Giants that will keep him in the Bay for the next several seasons. The deal is the most lucrative contract in franchise history, weighing in at eight-years, $167 million.
MLB Impact - There is no doubt that Posey is a key cog in that lineup and a leader through and through. But while this deal looks great at the moment, you have to remember that Posey, like almost any great hitting catcher, will most likely move to first base sometime in the not-so-distant future.
Already being groomed at first base part-time, Posey has 61 games in the major leagues at that position under his belt. And while he certainly has room to grow and add strength, he is 26-years old and has only one season over 20 home runs and only one season that came close to 100 runs batted in, both coming in 2012 as he hit for a .336 clip, went yard 24 times and punched in 103.
