The start of a rigorous 15-game interleague stretch against the American League's best teams was probably the worst time for Shaun Marcum to have a one-inning start. Right away, the Milwaukee Brewers face a tired bullpen that has been used much in recent days. The team made a move to help the tired relief corps Saturday by selecting the contract of right-hander Mark DiFelice from Triple-A Nashville. DiFelice spent the 2009 season in the Brewers' bullpen but blew out his shoulder near the end of the season and the ensuing surgery caused him to miss all of 2010. He returned for the 2011 season and was recently converted to a starter with Nashville. In three starts for the Sounds, DiFelice went 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA, allowing three runs over 13 13 innings. As a reliever, DiFelice held opposing hitters to a .233 batting average over 15 23 innings. Left-handed hitters batted just .167 against him.In 2009, DiFelice went 4-1 with a 3.66 ERA as a part of the Brewers' bullpen. He is 5-1 with a 3.44 ERA in 74 career appearances.Adding DiFelice gives the Brewers' bullpen a reliever capable of providing significant innings in the event of a short outing by the starter, such as Marcum's, which was the result of a left hip flexor strain. The bullpen has been used heavily over the last three games, throwing a total of 13 13 innings. To make room for DiFelice, the Brewers designated Daniel Herrera for assignment after Friday night's 10-4 loss to the Red Sox. The short left-hander spent just two days on the Brewers' roster following a call up late Wednesday. In two appearances, Herrera gave up five runs, four earned, for a 21.60 ERA.
