After another short start, the Milwaukee Brewers needed some extra coverage in the bullpen. Right-hander Tyler Thornburg was recalled from Triple-A Nashville following Friday's 10-3 loss to Pittsburgh, as the club sent outfielder Caleb Gindl back to Triple-A to make room. The Brewers will go to four-man bench in order to add a long reliever. Yovani Gallardo went just four innings Wednesday, Wily Peralta gave them five innings Thursday and Johnny Hellweg lasted just 1 23 innings Friday. With spot starter Donovan Hand going Saturday, the Brewers will need Thornburg to provide coverage as Hand is expected to go just three or four innings. Thornburg, 24, is 0-9 with a 5.79 ERA in Triple-A, but has a 3.86 ERA in four June starts. This is second stint with the Brewers this season, as he came up to provide similar type of relief in early June. He pitched four scoreless innings and picked up a win before being sent back to Nashville, He sports a career ERA of 3.81 over 26 innings. One of the organization's top prospects, Thornburg would have had a chance to earn a spot in Milwaukee's rotation if he had pitched better this season. Gindl, 24, hit .250 over 20 at-bats since being recalled from Nashville on June 18. With Carlos Gomez out for the Chicago series, Gindl started all three games, but struggled defensively in left field, dropping two fly balls that led to runs. Follow Andrew Gruman on Twitter
