Carlos Gomez has always tantalized fans and scouts alike with his rare combination of size and speed. And now, in 2012, the 26-year-old centerfielder finally seems to be finding consistency, too. The Brewers are playing better baseball because of it. Gomez entered Friday's action with a .351 average in his last 10 games, a span in which he also had a .757 slugging percentage. "He's a vibrant young man, he plays hard, and he goes 100-percent all the time," said FOX Sports Wisconsin analyst Jerry Augustine, in reference to Gomez. "It's really nice to see him mature." Gomez has seen his batting average spike nearly 20 points since mid-July, and is currently hitting .253, with nine home runs and 20 stolen bases. He was largely inconsistent during his time with the Minnesota Twins (2008-09), but the man they call "Go-Go" seems to have hit his stride in recent weeks. On Sunday, July 29, for instance, Gomez impressed in a narrow loss to the Nationals, as he had a double, homer and two RBI. Gomez's nine homers this season already represent a career-high. The Brewers (48-56) are scoring at a reasonable rate lately, and Gomez -- who entered the weekend with 13 runs scored in his previous 10 games -- has been a key contributor. Speed has always been Gomez's biggest asset, as his 113 career stolen bases attest to, but he has also started to display power befitting a man with a surprisingly imposing 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame."He has a unique ability," Augustine said of Gomez. "It's nice to see him find that comfort-level. And, I tell you what -- it's sure paying off for the Brewers."
