With the Milwauke Brewers getting swept over the weekend in Cincinnati and falling 10 1/2 games out in the NL Central race, speculation about possible trades is certain to pick up. The Brewers had told interested parties they wanted to wait to see how things went in the first nine games coming out of the All-Star break, but after going 2-1 against both the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals, the team took a dive against the Reds. "Sure, that's a possible distraction," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Guys talk all the time. They watch ESPN and MLB (Network). The talks are going on every day. You can't not think about those things. They get used to so much talk going on. Some things do happen. Most things don't happen. "They realize it's a lot of speculation. They realize they still have a job to do. Sometimes, guys look forward to maybe having that opportunity to go somewhere else." Despite that speculation, Roenicke said it's ...

Brewers' Rodriguez endures mild meltdown

Francisco Rodriguez was supposed to provide some kind of answer in the ninth inning for the Brewers, who were struggling to achieve any late-game consistency with John Axford manning the final inning. And despite inducing some heart palpitations around Milwaukee with his first two saves as closer, Rodriguez appeared to be on his way to providing some kind of reliability in a most...

Brewers may start shopping players

Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin is not yet ready to declare his team an outright seller. But clearly, Melvin is moving closer to such a decision. The Brewers, who were swept by the Cincinnati Reds this weekend, went 4-5 in a critical stretch against the three teams that they trail in the NL Central. At 44-50, the team is 10 1/2 games out in the division and 7 1/2...

Kartje: Brewers are in unfamiliar territory

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke isn't one for adding importance to midseason games. He's not one to make guarantees. And even through the Brewers' early struggles, he never bit on questions that would force him to levy some kind of drastic expectation on one series or another. But a week before the All-Star game, Roenicke seemed to break character, even if it was subtle...

Greinke confirms that Brewers offered nine-figure deal

While many folks are focusing on a possible trade of Zack Greinke by the Milwaukee Brewers, the club is trying to find a way to keep the ace right-hander. Greinke on Friday confirmed a report by Jon Heyman of CBSsports.com that the Brewers offered a five-year deal for $100 million or more to keep the pitcher rather than trade him before the July 31 deadline. "I can say Heyman...

Marcum, Greinke edging closer to returns

By ANDREW GRUMAN FOXSportsWisconsin.com Saturday was an important day for a pair of key cogs in the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation, and the results were encouraging. Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum each threw prior to Saturdays game against Cincinnati, and both pitchers were pleased with how things went. Marcum, on the disabled list since June 15 with right elbow tightness, threw...

Brewers' Marcum set to throw bullpen session Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum, who has been out of action since mid-June with an ailing elbow, is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session Tuesday as he continues the progression toward getting back in the rotation. Marcum has been rebuilding arm strength through long-toss sessions and is finally ready to get back on the mound. "I've been bouncing back...

Boston Red Sox in on Zack Greinke?

With the Milwaukee Brewers falling fast in the National League Central race, they have become sellers as the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline approaches. There biggest piece is former Cy-Young winner Zack Grienke who is unlikely to sign a long-term extension with the team. Seems the Boston Red Sox with all their pitching woes could be a player in the chase for his services. Greinke...

Victorino, Greinke Being Scouted Tonight; Pence, Polanco also in Trade Talks

Shane Victorino and starting pitcher Zack Greinke are among the few being scouted tonight, Jim Salisbury reports. Victorino is the talk of most trade situations that could happen for the Phillies before the trade deadline. He's not alone, there have also been rumors of dealing away Pence or Polanco. Zack Greinke has found himself in a very Ryan Dempster-esque situation. He...

Wolf, Brewers face Halladay in Philadelphia

The last time the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers were preparing to open a series, both clubs were rolling toward a division title. That's definitely not the case this time. Roy Halladay will try to give the Phillies back-to-back home wins for the first time in nearly a month in Monday night's series opener against the struggling Brewers. When the Phillies...

Ninth Inning Comeback Lead Phillies to 7-6 Victory over Brewers

Roy Halladay returned to Citizens Bank Park for the first time since coming off the disabled list during the Dodgers series. He would face Randy Wolf and the Milwaukee Brewers.  It didn't start out on a good note for Doc. In the first inning, Carlos Gomez was able to score on a double from Aramis Ramirez. Corey Hart later brought home Ramirez with an RBI single, giving the...

White Sox could make bold move

At the height of trading season, teams often send confusing messages, making it difficult to decipher their intentions. That said, the Chicago White Sox will be a team to watch in the next week, with the non-waiver deadline approaching at 4 p.m. ET July 31. White Sox general manager Ken Williams already has acquired third baseman Kevin Youkilis and right-handed reliever Brett Myers...
