MILWAUKEE -- After being placed on the 15-day DL last week for a tear in his rotator cuff, Brewers' No. 5 starter Chris Narveson announced today that he will undergo season-ending surgery on his throwing shoulder. The recovery time for the surgery is believed to be between six and nine months. Narveson was one of the league's top No. 5 pitchers last season, finishing with an 11-8 record and 4.45 ERA. Through two starts this season, Narveson was 1-1 with 7.00 ERA. And with Narveson now on the shelf for the rest of season, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke confirmed again that Marco Estrada will be given the first chance to fit into the fifth spot in Milwaukee's rotation. Estrada pitched five innings in a start against the Rockies on April 21, striking out nine and allowing just one earned run on 78 pitches. Through 17 games, the Brewers pitching staff has struggled mightily, registering the worst team ERA in the National League. And with an effective starter now out, the question marks will only continue to pile up on the mound. "It's tough," catcher Jonathan Lucroy said. "You don't have that lefty in your rotation that can go out and put up those numbers no matter what. But I think Marco is going to step in and get the job done for usit's a blow, but then again, we've got someone who can step in and really fill the role."Follow Ryan Kartje on Twitter.
