Tyler Thornburg's stay in Triple-A wasn't very long.
In fact, it was just one start.
The Brewers announced Wednesday thatthe top pitching prospectwas coming back up and would join the club for Friday's game against Pittsburgh.
To clear room for Thornburg, right hander Tim Dillard was outrighted to Nashville, pending his approval.
Brought up from Double-A Huntsville to make an emergency start against Toronto on June 19, the 23-year-old Thornburg impressed in the start, but ran out of gas, allowing back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning.
He was sent back to Nashville immediately after, but went on the disabled list with a sore right wrist. Thornburg was activated and made his first Triple-A start on July 4, allowing two runs in five innings, earning the victory.
The move leaves the Brewers with an abundance of starting pitchers on their active roster. With Yovani Gallardo, Zack Greinke, Randy Wolf, Mike Fiers and Marco Estrada currently making up the rotation, Thornburg makes six, with injured starter Shaun Marcum due back soon and would be the seventh starter on the roster.
Dillard, 28, has pitched in parts of four seasons with the Brewers, bouncing back-and-forth between Nashville and Milwaukee since 2008.
This season, he has posted a 4.38 earned run average in 37 innings out of the bullpen for Milwaukee.
In another transaction Wednesday, the Brewers officially announced the addition of infielder Jeff Bianchi to their roster from Triple-A.
The 25-year-old Bianchi was claimed off waivers from the Cubs in January and was a second round pick of Kansas City in 2005.
Bianchi has spent time in Double-A and Triple-A in 2012, hitting .351 in Huntsville and .305 in Nashville. His first appearance with the Brewers will mark his Major League debut.

Get To Know Jeff Bianchi
Close enough.
According to pretty much everybody, Milwaukee's first nine games after the All-Star break are the most vital games ever, making the previous 85 Brewers contests all but meaningless. People are saying this because 1. Such statements cause reaction and panic, which creates more page views, and 2. It's sort of true.
The Crew resumes its schedule with consecutive...
LET'S MAKE A DEAL
Angels interested in Greinke?
If the Brewers decide to make Zack Greinke available before the trade deadline, the Angels might be one of the teams interested.
Jeff Bianchi Promoted to Replace Green
After optioning Taylor Green to AAA on Sunday, the Brewers made a corresponding move today, calling up shortstop Jeff Bianchi from Nashville. Bianchi has split time between Huntsville and Nasvhille this year, hitting .319/.372/.378 in 70 total at-bats.
Bianchi has a pretty interesting backstory: He was a 2nd round pick out of high school in 2005, and started out as a well-regarded...
Aoki, Greinke, Braun strong in first half
It's not exactly the way most would have assumed the NL Central would play out, but when the All-Star break arrived, last year's title-winning Brewers were eight games back and the eternally struggling Pirates stood alone in front. Of course, there's plenty of time left in the season, and even last year, Pittsburgh threatened to push the division contenders before falling...
Braun's big night helps NL win All-Star game, 8-0
Ryan Braun was back in the spotlight at the All-Star game. And this time, it was for what happened on the field.
The Milwaukee Brewers' slugger was in the middle of everything early on for the National League, driving in the first run and playing solid defense in an 8-0 victory against the American League on Tuesday night.
Braun, last year's NL MVP, spent much of the offseason...
Braun gets off the All-Star schneid in K.C.
Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun had been voted to start in four straight All-Star games playing in three of them but it took a fifth straight nomination for Braun to tally his first hit.
With a 0-for-7 history with three strikeouts in past All-Star games, Braun came to the plate in the top of the first inning on Tuesday against Detroit ace Justin Verlander looking to...
Milwaukee Brewers: Up In The Air
By and large Brewers fans have given up on the 2012 season. It's over they say. Sell they say. Rebuild they say. It's hard not to blame the people that say this. The Brewers currently sit at 40-45, eight games out of first place and six games behind the second Wild Card. A run at this point seems impossible, but as I've said before it isn't impossible only improbable...
Trying to Remember Jay Gibbons
All-Star Week was marred by the surprising news that Jay Gibbons retired. It was surprising in the sense that many probably did not realize that Gibbons was still “in baseball.” It has been a semi-interesting wild ride for the 35-year-old. Gibbons never went to the playoffs. While he made contact and had nice power, his low on-base percentage and poor defense at non-premium positions...
A Public Service Announcement Regarding John Axford
Recently I saw a blurb on The Official Site where the closer role is discussed. While we all know John Axford has had a rough year, this is the first inkling I've heard of a closer controversy. I don't believe Ron Roenicke will be replacing Ax anytime soon, if at all, despite cries from some fans or "Twitter tough guys". Make no mistake, Axford is still the best...
Royals interested in bringing Zack Greinke back
The future of right handed pitcher Zack Greinke is still unknown. The Brewers would like to keep him long-term, but if they're unable to sign him to a multi-year contract and if the Brewers become seller, they will probably deal him.
Yesterday, we learned that the Angels, Rangers, Orioles and Braves are among the teams interested in Greinke, and according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports...
All Hands on Deck to Start the Second Half
Photo: REUTERS/Darren Hauck According to GM Doug Melvin, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to see what happens in the nine-game span starting Friday, July 13 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. How the team plays will reportedly determine whether new hands are brought on or if someone or several someones will be thrown overboard. I think this is a very logical and pragmatic, almost...
