PLAYERS: Doug Melvin
TEAMS: Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers have announced an extension with their current Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate, the Nashville Sounds. Under the agreement, the Sounds will continue to serve as the Brewers Triple-A ball club until the end of the 2014 season. The Brewers, while supportive of the Sound, are hoping that the team's stadium issues are rectified prior to the end of this latest agreement, "While the current facility and conditions are not totally satisfactory, we remain loyal and are very supportive of the ownership and Frank Ward in his continued efforts to get a much-needed new park," said Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin. "As General Manager of a Major League franchise, I totally believe in this ownership, and if we can get the same support from the city, Nashville will be one of the most desirable franchises in minor league baseball." The Sounds Greer Stadium was built in 1978 and only underwent a $2.5 million dollar renovation in 2009. All p...

Hi. The Brewers are one game over .500 for the first time in the history of baseball (or so it seems) and are suddenly very much in the Wild Card Race. This is happening. So let's talk about betting on them to win the World Series. Brewers World Series Betting Odds (OddsShark.com) November 11, 2011: 22/1 March 6, 2012: 28/1 April 22, 2012: 35/1 May 28, 2012: 60/1 July 3, 2012...

Brewers racking up strikeouts without trying

MILWAUKEE For a young Marco Estrada, playing baseball at Sylmar High School in California, the strikeout was everything. The joy of a third strike was unlike any other feeling in sports to Estrada. He and his fellow young pitchers judged their games by it. They reveled in getting batters to miss their pitches more than any other aspect of their game. The strikeout was king. So...

Brewers continue to defy odds, gather steam

MILWAUKEE Nearly twenty minutes after the beat continued to roll on for the Milwaukee Brewers --fresh off a sweep of the NL wildcard-leading Atlanta Braves, in which they allowed just three Braves' runs in three games -- another NL matchup flashed across the TV screens in the Brewers' clubhouse. It pitted the Dodgers, who are still ahead of Milwaukee, albeit barely, in...

Estrada, Brewers look to get back to .500

The Potentially Tragic Late Life of the Brewers

You’re going into the bottom of the ninth inning, and your favorite baseball team is trailing 7-0. The game’s being played in a roughly neutral run environment, and so your team’s odds of winning are about 0.2 percent. That’s one-fifth of one percent. Maybe you’ve stopped paying close attention, and maybe you’ve stopped watching entirely, because the game is basically...

Mets-Brewers Preview

Considering where they stood four weeks ago, the Milwaukee Brewers making the playoffs would be a historic achievement. So would a win Friday night. The surging Brewers have a chance to match a 33-year-old franchise record for their longest home winning streak as they face the sliding New York Mets. Milwaukee's only losses in its last 19 games at Miller Park came to Philadelphia...
