Milwaukee Brewers officials and fans have had Aug. 31 circled on their calendars for some time, and that day finally arrives on Friday. You know that any day in which Bob Uecker is the center of attention has a chance to be epic. In an afternoon ceremony at Miller Park's Home Plate Plaza, the Brewers will unveil a long overdue statue of their Hall of Fame radio voice. Uecker's statue will join those of Robin Yount, Hank Aaron and Bud Selig, forming a sort of Mt. Rushmore of Milwaukee baseball. The ceremony will be emceed by NBC Sports host and broadcaster Bob Costas, a longtime friend of Uecker. Many other luminaries are expected to be in attendance at what promises to be an entertaining event. "It's a wonderful thing to have happen," Uecker said Thursday. "I'm going to get a chance to see a lot of old friends. I talked to Bob Costas this morning and he's all fired up about doing the emceeing. "I'm really looking forward to it. F...

Brewers unveil Uecker's statue in ceremony

MILWAUKEE As Bob Uecker stared up at his bronzed likeness, now immortalized just outside the walls of Miller Park, master of ceremonies Bob Costas asked him what he'd like to do with his new statue first. "Get my money back," Uecker deadpanned, in a way only the legendary Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster could. For months, Uecker had joked that he couldn't put...

Brewers, Rogers disagree on innings limit

MILWAUKEE Mark Rogers isn't ready to call it quits on this season just yet. Despite a claim from Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio during the broadcast of Friday's 9-3 win over the Pirates that the team will shut down the right-hander after his Friday win to limit his innings, the former first-round pick said that he feels as good as he ever has, even with 39 innings...

Marcum, Brewers look to sweep Chicago

The Milwaukee Brewers have come to expect significant offensive production from Ryan Braun against the Chicago Cubs. Norichika Aoki's production has been even more impressive. Braun and Aoki look to continue pounding on Cubs pitching as the Brewers attempt to sweep this four-game set and extend their longest winning streak in the all-time series Thursday. Braun is a career...

Uecker statue dedicated at Miller Park

A statue of popular Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker was dedicated outside Miller Park on Friday, and those in attendance recalled it was all made possible because of some spilled mashed potatoes and gravy. Uecker, affectionately dubbed ''Mr. Baseball'' by Johnny Carson in the 1970s, joined Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig...

A Brief History of Owgust, the Barrel Man

Milwaukee Brewers fans and residents of Wisconsin in general are no doubt familiar with the cartoon Beer Barrel Man, who became an official symbol of the modern Brewers when the franchise arrived in town in 1970.  The new, major league Brewers of that time needed some branding, a logo, something to represent the team and connect with locals.  That’s when Bud Selig reached back...

Brewers 9, Pirates 3

Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez both went 3 for 4 with home runs, and Pittsburgh starter Jeff Karstens left for the second consecutive time with an injury as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pirates 9-3 on Friday night. Milwaukee starter Mark Rogers (3-1) gave up one run in 5 1-3 innings to win his third consecutive start in his last outing of the season. Ramirez had four RBIs and Nyjer...

Brewers 3, Cubs 1

Mike Fiers tossed 7 1-3 solid innings to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 win over the Cubs on Wednesday night, their eighth straight victory against Chicago. Fiers (8-6) held the Cubs to four hits and struck out six, helping Milwaukee beat its division rival for the 13th time in 16 games this season. The Brewers have won eight of their last nine overall and moved within five...

Aramis Ramirez’s 2012 Season

I wrote this a few days ago instead of a Brewers series preview but didn't have as much to say as I thought (laughing). Congrats to Rodrigo for having a great season. I had a hard enough time finding enough to write about in the last Brewers-Cubs series preview last week, so I figure the most interesting thing to look at would be Ramirez's first season with the Brewers. As...

First Pitch:  8:10 PM EST Where To Watch:  Root Sports, MLB.TV, FSWI   Mark Rogers, RHP (26) This freaking guy again? He freaking faced the Pirates last time out. Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Game 132

Only thirty games left.  Whatever happens, this was the best season the Pirates have had in my adult life, and it was fun.  That’s not to say it was a success, because without a World Series it isn’t, but it was still a whole lot more enjoyable than years past. I don’t know why the [...]
