After joining the Milwaukee Brewers as the main prospect in a trade that sent pitcher Zack Greinke to the Angels, shortstop Jean Segura will join the Brewers major league roster tonight against Cincinnati, according to a release from the team. In addition to Segura joining the roster, the Brewers announced that shortstop Cesar Izturis was claimed off waivers by Washington. As one of Milwaukee's fill-ins at the position following the early injury of starting shortstop Alex Gonzalez Izturis batted .235 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 57 games. Segura had started hot at Double-A Huntsville, where he was optioned to with fellow prospects John Hellweg and Ariel Pena after being traded to Milwaukee. In eight games in Huntsville, Segura was batting .433 with four RBI and four stolen bases. Before being traded, Segura had been hitting .294 with seven home runs and 40 RBI with Double-A Arkansas, in the Angels' system. He was called up for one game inLos Angelesto replace ailing shortstop Erick Aybar, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. The shortstop had been the No. 2 prospect in the Angels' systembehind phenom Mike Troutbefore being traded to Milwaukee, where he's expected to be the shortstop of the future. And on Monday, Brewers fans should get their first look at the future of the shortstop position with Segura coming to Milwaukee. Follow Ryan Kartje on Twitter.
