(Ben's design.  Credit: Brewers.com) The Milwaukee Brewers have revealed the three finalist entries in their ‘Design a Youniform’ contest, and fans are to help narrow those down in online voting to close on January 22.  Fans can vote here.  An eight-judge panel will rule on the winner, though, and the fan vote counts as only one judge.  Other judges include GM Doug Melvin, closer John Axford, and others.  The finalists whose submissions will be judged are to travel to Milwaukee and be on hand for the ‘Brewers On Deck’ event on January 27, when the winner will be crowned.  Apparently only one Wisconsin resident made the final three, as there is also a gentleman from just across the border in Richfield, MN, as well as one from Catonsville, MD, which is near Baltimore.  All three of the designs are pretty good, but I like the second one best (by Ben of Richfield, MN).  It has a unique script across the front, as well as a killer sleeve patch featuring the state logo and Owg...

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers and closer John Axford have agreed to a one-year, 5 million contract to avoid salary arbitration. According to Axford's agents at the Beverly Hills Sports Council via Twitter, the right-hander who will be 30 years old on Opening Day, will have incentives in his contract, as well. The 5 million is a significant pay raise from the 525,000 Axford...

Surgery to sideline Brewers Hart 3-4 months

Hart, 30, will have the procedure performed by Brewers team physician Dr. William Raasch in Milwaukee and is expected to miss three to four months, leaving the first six weeks of the regular season in doubt...

Carlos Gomez, Brewers agree at $4.3 million

Outfielder Carlos Gomez and the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a $4.3 million, one-year contract, more than doubling his salary. The 27-year-old hit .260 for Milwaukee last season with 19 homers, 51 RBIs and 37 stolen bases in 43 chances. He made $1,987,500. Gomez can become a free agent after this season. Three Brewers remain in arbitration, right-handers John Axford, Burke...

Brewers sign Gomez for one more season

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers and center fielder Carlos Gomez have agreed to a one-year contract to avoid arbitration, the club announced Thursday. Gomez, 27, hit a career-best .260 with a career-high 19 home runs, 51 RBI and a career-high 37 stolen bases in 137 games for the Brewers in 2012. Acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a trade for shortstop J.J. Hardy in November 2009...

Brewers 1B Hart to undergo right knee surgery

The heavy-hitting Milwaukee Brewers offense is going to be missing a big bat when the season begins. First baseman Corey Hart is going to miss the next three to four months with an injured right knee that requires surgery, the team announced on Friday. Hart's knee started to swell up during offseason workouts, and an MRI revealed a torn meniscus and other damage to the joint...

The provisional rosters for all 16 countries participating in the World Baseball Classic were officially announced Thursday, and the Milwaukee Brewers have the maximum allowed amount of players participating. Fourteen members of the Brewers organization will represent eight different nations in the tournament that begins March 2. Left fielder Ryan Braun and catcher Jonathan Lucroy...

Mat Gamel’s Last Last Chance

Brewers first baseman Corey Hart will miss the next three to four months — or about six weeks of the regular season — as the former outfielder requires surgery to repair a meniscal tear on his right knee. Hart thrived through a transition from right field to first base after Mat Gamel suffered a torn ACL attempting to run down a foul ball last year. Now, presumably, Gamel will...

Player Profile #142: Yovani Gallardo | SP | MIL

I’m constantly torn on whether I like Yovani Gallardo. In 2011 it looked like he’d finally turned a corner, lowering his walk rate to just 2.56 BB/9, putting up a respectable 1.22 WHIP, and lasting more than 185 innings for the first time in his career. And then 2012 came and Gallardo reverted to the pitcher he’d been for the majority of his career, a high strikeout starter...

Brewers' Hart faces knee surgery

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Corey Hart will have surgery on his right knee on Tuesday and could miss three to four months of the 2012 season. Hart had surgery on the same knee last spring to repair cartilage damage. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Hart's knee swelled during offseason workouts and a recent MRI found a problem in the joint surface. In 149 games...

Player Profile #146: Marco Estrada | SP | MIL

Marco Estrada had the pitcher’s version of the season teammate Carlos Gomez had in 2012: solid, sporadic first-half play followed by second-half dominance. In 12 starts from July 30 until the end of the season, Estrada went 5-3 with a 2.80 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 8.66 K/9, and 1.91 BB/9 in 70.2 innings. He featured four pitches — four-seamer, curveball, and change-up — at least 17...

Let’s Consider Eric Gregg and Livan Hernandez in the 1997 NLCS

A lot of analytical baseball articles today will make some sort of reference to catcher pitch-framing. References to pitch-framing will often make references to Jose Molina, and they will less often but still somewhat often make references to Livan Hernandez. References to Livan Hernandez often lead to recollections of the 1997 NLCS, and Eric Gregg’s strike zone in Game 5. Consensus...

Corey Hart to miss 3-4 months after knee surgery

Mat Gamel will play firstbase to start the season for the Milwaukee Brewers. Corey Hart is expected to miss three to four months after having surgery on his injured right knee. Hart began having trouble with his knee this offseason and an MRI later revealed a defect in the joint surface. Losing Hart will take a toll on the Brewers offense, he compiled a .270/.334/.507 line last season...
