In a tweet by Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Wilson reports that Texas Rangers third baseman Brian Barden has opted out of his contract and has become a free agent. This news comes just one day after learning that the 30 year old Barden had been selected as a starter for the AAA Pacific Coast League All Star Game.
Barden is a career .211/.268/.303 hitter at the Major League level, but was having an amazing year at Triple A Round Rock hitting .357/.403/.556 with 7 home runs.
