Brian McCann begins a rehabilitation injury assignment tonight with the Rome Braves
Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann, who has been rehabbing his shoulder since off-season surgery, will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment tonight with the Single-A Rome Braves at 7 p.m. The Rome Braves will play tonight at Greensboro.
McCann had successful arthroscopic surgery on October 12 to repair a torn right labrum, and started the season on the 15-day disabled list.
It is reported that McCann will play all three games in the weekend series against Greensboro, and if all goes well, could be activated next week against the Washington Nationals. McCann has been in Florida on extended spring training since the Braves regular season started.
It has been a long time since Braves fans have seen a healthy Brian McCann in the line-up. Last season he hit only .219 after the All-Star break while dealing with the shoulder problem.
When McCann is ready to go it will be interesting to see how manager Fredi Gonzalez handles his catcher situation. Both Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird have played well at catcher this season. Gattis is second on the team in homers (6) and third in runs-batted-in (13) and Laird is hitting .320 with a .390 on-base-percentage.
