The Baltimore Orioles got a bit of good news surroudning second baseman Brian Roberts on Friday, when Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reported that Roberts would miss three to four weeks after rupturing the ligament behind his knee that connects the knee to the hamstring. Roberts won't need surgery on the injury The injury occured in the ninth inning of Batlimore's 6-3 win over the Rays on Thursday. Roberts stole second base with Jamey Wright on the hill, and immediately begin to grab at his knee. He had to be helped off the field and couldn't put any weight on his right leg, and fans immediately thought the worst. Roberts has played in just 115 games over the last three seasons coming into 2013, but had played in all three games this year, and was 5/12 thusfar, potentially showing flashes of his old self. He's in the final year of a four year, $40 million contract that he signed with the Orioles during Spring Training 2009.  While it's disappointing to see the 35-year old Roberts head to the DL once again, at least this injury doesn't seem as severe as his prior injuries in recent year, which include a torn labrum in his hip, a concussion, and an abdominal strain. The Orioles will likely end up using Alexi Casilla or Ryan Flaherty at second base while Roberts is out. [follow]
