The Orioles pulled the trigger on a potentially impactful post-season move by calling up the 19-year-old phenom Dylan Bundy. Electric stuff who projects to be a #1 rotation guy will provide a new weapon for Buck Showalter down the stretch and potentially in the playoffs (although not on the roster by the playoff deadline to be added, there are legal exemptions that can get him on the roster).
Bundy is the #1 prospect in the minors by most scouting services, comes up from the AA Bowie Baysox, his third stop this year. Features a four-seamer, two-seamer, Bugs Bunny curve (check out the punch out in the video below) and an adolescent change up that he’s just starting to learn. And did I mention he’s 19?
This may or may not have a huge impact on the pennant race and playoffs, he’s probably only going to get a few outings (one probably sooner than later after last night’s 18 inning marathon). But he “could” be an Adam Wainwright or David Price where as a late-season call up, he’s a difference in those critical middle innings when games are decided between the starter and closer. Stay tuned, as if Baltimore wasn’t playing exciting enough with these barnburners, now they got a flame thrower weapon.
