This weekend is a huge one for me for two reasons. First, it is the Super Bowl for jersey wearers and Hoopsters alike as Lollapalooza kicks off three glorious days in Chicago. You can expect that I’ll be repping my jerseys hard (today I’m going with an Ed O’Bannon New Jersey Nets) and that I’ll find some great gems to show you. Second, for the first time in at least 20 years the Pirates and Reds are playing a series that would actually be deemed important. The Reds are atop the NL Central with the Bucos lurking just 3.5 games behind. To honor both of these momentis occasions I thought that I’d give you a video that combines both sports and music. Here is Reds starter Bronson Arroyo playing guitar and singing a horrendous song called “Reds Hooded Sweatshirt”. I don’t recommend that you listen to the entire thing as your ears might start to bleed. This is another great example of why athletes should stick to playing ball and not trying to be the next John Mayer.
Don't be fooled by the team's hot
play as of late. Veteran Scott Rolen
knows there's a long way still to go.
Let me first begin by saying that I consider myself to be as optimistic as they come. That is, I choose to look at the glass half-full and always opt to look at things in a positive light. With that in mind, I also consider myself to be relatively realistic...
All the talks heading into the deadline were centered on Matt Garza and Denard Span. It seemed like one of the former first round picks would be heading to the Cincinnati Reds to help make a World Series push.
As the deadline approached though it became more and more clear that the prices for these two may be too high. So Red’s management began to look elsewhere.
Around an hour...

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer and Johnny Cueto overcame a pair of rare long balls to pitch into the eighth inning Thursday and lead the surging Cincinnati Reds to their 13th win in 14 games, 9-4 over the San Diego Padres.

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle has been ejected in the second inning against Cincinnati after both benches were warned following the second Pirates batter to be hit by a pitch in two nights.
Pitching with a 2-1 lead Saturday night, Reds starter Mike Leake plunked Josh Harrison with two outs and nobody on base. Harrison and Leake had a brief verbal altercation, prompting plate umpire...
The Cincinnati Reds have been on fire since the All-Star break. Since July 13 the team has gone 18-3 entering today’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, including a 10-game winning streak. The streak is important because earlier this season Reds broadcaster, and Ford C. Frick Award winner, Marty Brennaman said he would shave [...]

Chris Heisey hustled for an inside-the-park home run and Aroldis Chapman closed out the win that gave the Reds a 4 1/2-game lead over the Pirates...
It was a banner month for the Redlegs in July. They ripped off a 10-game winning streak, reclaimed the top spot in the division and boasted the best record in the majors as of 11:59 PM ET on the 31st. If you discount the injury sustained to Joey Votto, you might even say the month was one of the best ever for the franchise.
With that in mind, here are 12 fast facts about the...
Mat Latos was sharp tonight against the Pirates. He did not give up a run for the 7.1 innings he pitched. His stats for the night were 4 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Latos did this against a Pittsburgh Pirates team looking to gain some groung on the NL Central leading Cinncinatti Reds. They trail the Reds by 4.5 games with the loss tonight.
The Reds first run came in the...
Final: Reds 3, Pirates 0
WP: Mat Latos (10-3, 3.94 ERA)
LP: Wandy Rodriguez (7-10, 3.82 ERA)
SV: Aroldis Chapman (24, 1.37 ERA)
The Reds capitalized on two mistakes by Rodriguez, and that was enough as the Pirates’ offense was nonexistent with only one base runner made it to third base.
Chris Heisey hit an inside-the-park homer in the second inning to give the Reds a 1-0 lead....
