The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for reliever Jose Veras. The move came hours after the Brewers agreed to terms with free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez on Monday. McGehee had a strong rookie season in 2009 and a big year in 2010 but then slumped at the plate in 2011 and lost his starting job to Jerry Hairston Jr.
BEST OF MAXIM
Well that didn’t take long. Mere hours after signing Aramis Ramirez to man the keystone for the next three seasons, the Milwaukee Brewers traded former third baseman Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jose Veras. While McGehee exceeded expectations with the Brewers initially — he slumped badly last season — and was eventually replaced by Jerry Hairston Jr. Will a change...
This probably shouldn't be as much of a surprise as it was, but the Brewers capped off a busy day by trading Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Jose Veras. With Aramis Ramirez signing with the Brewers earlier in the day and the non-tender deadline at 11 p.m. Central, today seemed like a good bet to be McGehee's last with the Brewers one way or another...
29 year old C.McGehee could be on trade market with Ramirez signing
With the recent signing of 3B free agent Aramis Ramirez going to the Milwaukee Brewers for 3 years $36M (according to Brewers.com), the Brewers now former 3B Casey McGehee could be on the trading soon. This could be a blessing in disguise for Detroit Tigers fans that wanted us to sign Ramirez, if we can jump...
Casey McGehee is a Brewer. We have always hated Casey McGehee. Casey McGehee is a Pirate. We have always loved Casey McGehee. When the Pirates picked up Casey McGehee last night, my initial instinct was to remember that how awful he was in 2011 and how overrated I thought he was in 2010. Being overrated doesn't mean that a player isn't useful, of course (see: Neil Walker...

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for right-handed reliever Jose Veras.
Hours after agreeing with Aramis Ramirez on a contract to play third base, the Brewers traded Casey McGehee to the Pirates for right-handed reliever Jose Veras.
The Brewers spent their remaining pile of money on Aramis Ramirez today, locking him into a three year, $36ish million deal to take over at third base for the club. While most people will see this move as evidence that the Brewers are out on Prince Fielder, I think there’s another Seattle tie-in here that should be more aggressively pursued. In part one of my offseason plan post...
