Pirates fans were given an opportunity to celebrate today when the club announced they had traded Brian Bixler to the Cleveland Indians for prospect Jesus Brito. It was easily the most excited I have ever seen fans react to news involving the Pirates all offseason.Bixler, 27, was considered a decent prospect after being a 2nd round pick in 2004. However, anyone who saw him play in the majors knows he does not belong anywhere near a big league lineup. In 152 career AB between 2008 and 2009, Bixler hit .178 and struck out a whopping 62 times. In fact, last season, he struck out in 26 of his 44 AB.What is almost as amazing as Bixler's strikeout numbers is the fact the Pirates actually got a legitimate prospect in return for him. Brito, who turned 22 on Christmas (fitting, considering his first name), played his first season in America after playing in the Dominican Summer League.
