PLAYERS: Jon Daniels
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox offers fantasy analysis of relievers all offseason long and we’ll also be keeping detailed tabs on the relief market here at MLBTR. Now for the latest hot stove notes regarding relievers...  The Red Sox talked to Joe Nathan, but never made him an offer, according to Alex Speier of Boston was uncomfortable offering the closer a multiyear deal partly because he's 37. The Rockies are trying to move Huston Street because they believe Rafael Betancourt can close for them, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post (Twitter links). Renck expects the Rockies to attempt to acquire a starter such as Jeremy Guthrie or Carl Pavano for Street. The bullpen remains the Rangers’ top priority, GM Jon Daniels told reporters, including Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest (Twitter link). Bobby Valentine, Red Sox Could Be Perfect Match

The Red Sox welcomed Bobby Valentine into their managerial mix as the team is still on the hunt for Terry Francona's replacement. Will O'Toole points out that Valentine and Red Sox Nation could fall in love next season, as seen in the cartoon above. It Might Be Bobby Valentine's Day in Boston

Bobby Valentine could be back in a dugout very soon. Valentine interviewed to become manager of the Red Sox on Monday and word out of Boston is that he is the frontrunner to take over for Terry Francona. It's a bit ironic that a man forced out of Queens because the 2002 Mets quit on him would replace a man forced out of Boston by a collapse, but baseball didn't become our...

Bobby Valentine goes after Boston manager job

The Boston Red Sox said they were looking for a different voice in the clubhouse when they let Terry Francona walk after the worst September collapse in major league history. Enter Bobby Valentine.

On Bobby V. and the Red Sox

So it appears that Bobby Valentine is the front runner for the Boston Red Sox managerial job. Good for him and for them. I wish them all the best. Though I don’t mean the above facetiously (I’ve been known to have a dark sense of humor sometimes but I’m not mean) I’ll be happy to [...]

The Red Sox are Moving at a Snail's Pace

So, what have the Red Sox done to improve the team that did not make the playoffs last season?  No a whole lot.   The team still has no manager while the Cubs and Cardinals have both filled their vacancies.  Pap was allowed to walk without being made an offer and now the negotiations with Big Papi which seemed to be coming to a head have gone silent.  Not as big of a deal but...

Ellsbury top position player on AL MVP ballot

Jacoby Ellsbury's transformation from table-setter to game-changer was dramatic enough that he finished higher than any other position player in the American League's Most Valuable Player Award voting, which was released Monday.

Box Score From the Past (08.01.1962)

Bill Monboquette tossed a no-hiiter for the Red Sox on August 1, 1962 against the Chicago White Sox. The Red Sox line-up in 1962 included Yaz LF (.291 BA, .844 OPS), Jim Pagliaroni C, (.292, .892), Pete Runnels 1B (.333, .903), and Lou Clinton RF (.295, .928) in the heart of the order. With a line-up like that, you would think that they might have scored more runs than that,...

Be our Valentine?

Three candidates remain to become the next manager of the Red Sox. My guess is you only have an opinion on one...

Rangers aren't forced to re-sign C.J. Wilson

In more ways than one, Jon Daniels got what he wanted on Monday. The Rangers GM was able to sign a proven closer in Joe Nathan and move a gifted young arm into the starting rotation. Now, Nathan becomes the Rangers' closer and 2010 Rookie of the Year Neftali Feliz can join Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison and either Alexei Ogando or Scott Feldman as the five starters...
