JAPAN 6, GIANTS 3 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Japan roughed up San Francisco starter Yusmeiro Petit for four runs and six of its 11 hits in four innings, beating the Giants 6-3 on Thursday. Sho Nakata had three hits and Takashi Toritani added two hits and two RBIs for Japan, tuning up for its appearance in the World Baseball Classic semifinals in San Francisco on Sunday. Toritani had a two-run double in Japan's three-run second inning. Nakata, a power-hitting first baseman, had a run-scoring triple in the fourth, and added two singles and scored twice. Japan used eight pitchers to limit the Giants to five hits while striking out 10. The Giants' lineup included key regulars Marco Scutaro, Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey and Hunter Pence for only two at-bats apiece. San Francisco used five relievers following Petit. Japan ace Masahiro Tanaka gave up three hits in two innings, yielding Francisco Peguero's one-out RBI single in the second. ANGELS 12, WHITE SOX 4 TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Mike Trout homered and scored three runs, Howie Kendrick and Albert Pujols each had two hits and the Los Angeles Angels roughed up John Danks in a 12-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Danks gave up seven hits and six runs in 3 13 innings. Trout hit his first home run of spring training leading off the bottom of the first. Angels left-hander Jason Vargas, in his third spring start, worked 4 23 innings and allowed a run and two hits with five strikeouts. Chicago's Dewayne Wise hit his second homer, off Scott Downs. ROYALS 5, INDIANS 3 GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Adam Moore hit two of the Kansas City Royals' seven doubles and drove in two runs in a 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday. Moore, bidding for a job as backup catcher, had three hits as the designated hitter. Starting catcher Salvador Perez had two hits, including a double. Mike Moustakas, David Lough, Johnny Giavotella and Chris Getz all had doubles. Zach McAllister pitched 3 13 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and two hit batters. Terry Francona told McAllister that he earned the fourth spot in the Cleveland rotation on Sunday. Lonnie Chisenhall hit his third homer of spring training and doubled off Jeremy Guthrie, who will be in the Royals rotation. Matt Carson hit his fourth home run off Kansas City closer Greg Holland. Guthrie pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits. MARINERS 8, INDIANS 7 PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Michael Morse homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the Seattle Mariners back from a six-run deficit for an 8-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Morse doubled and scored in the second inning, hit his first two-run shot in the fourth off Reds starter Homer Bailey and connected for his second two-run shot in the fifth off reliever Clay Hensley. Morse is 11-for-31 in spring training and leads the team in home runs with five. Kendrys Morales and Justin Smoak added two hits and an RBI each for Seattle, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Bailey allowed three runs on six hits in four innings. Zack Cozart had two hits including a two-run single in the fourth inning and Chris Heisey had two hits for the Reds. All-Star first baseman Joey Votto went 0-for-2 with a run scored before being replaced after three innings because of illness and fatigue. Mariners left-hander Joe Saunders was roughed up for five earned runs on nine hits in 3 23 innings. He pitched through pain from a blister on his left foot. RANGERS 6, ATHLETICS 2 PHOENIX (AP) -- Ian Kinsler had an RBI double and scored twice and Elvis Andrus had two hits, drove in a run and scored another, lifting the Texas Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday. Right-hander Randy Wells, making a bid for a spot in the Rangers' rotation, gave up a run -- homer by Josh Reddick -- and three hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out four. Kinsler reached on an error to begin the game and Andrus followed with a single. Kinsler and Andrus scored on sacrifice flies by Lance Berkman and Adrian Beltre. Kinsler hit an RBI double in the fourth and scored on a double by Andrus. CUBS 8, DODGERS 1 GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Catcher Welington Castillo hit a two-run triple off Chris Capuano in the first inning Thursday, leading the Chicago Cubs to an 8-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Camelback Ranch. Cubs' left-hander Chris Rusin threw five innings of one-hit ball, a single by shortstop Alfredo Amezaga in the third. Rusin, who made seven starts for the Cubs after spending most of 2012 with Triple-A Iowa, has had an impressive spring. In four appearances, two as a reliever and two as a starter, he has allowed only one run and eight hits in 13 innings. Capuano, who is battling for a spot in the Dodgers' starting rotation, gave up five runs on six hits in 4 13 innings. In 9 13 innings of work, he has allowed 13 hits.
