Philadelphia Phillies prospect Darrin Ruf had a storybook season in 2012 that ended with the young slugger on the major league roster in September. Fans were optimistic that Ruf could be the right handed power bat that the Phillies so desperately need, but a slow start to Spring Training 2013 has raised some questions about his development and where he belongs when the team heads North in April. The 26 year old outfielder has struggled both at the plate and defensively. Through his first 8 games he hit .130 with a double and 3 RBI’s. He had a good game today going 2 for 4 with his second double of the spring while doubling his RBI total to 6. But can he do enough to prove he belongs and earn a spot on the opening day roster? Fans were overly high on Ruf throughout the offseason while discounting the fact that Domonic Brown could very well be the guy to fill an outfield role full time.
