There is a lot of chatter and trade rumors creeping around the Phillies right now. Who will stay and who will go? And, do they even have any real choices here? One of the predominant theories says that if the Phillies make a strong run in the 2nd half, they may be able to keep guys like Cole Hamels and Shane Victorino. But to do so would mean winning a LOT of games. Last night’s win over the Dodgers gave the Phillies a 3-game winning streak. That is nice, but not exactly a season-saving run just yet. Yet there were reasons to hope; Joe Blanton pitched extremely well, allowing just 2 runs in 8 innings, keeping the unreliable bullpen at bay. Ryan Howard hit his first home run of the year. And Victorino had 3 hits in the game. But even if this short streak of better baseball continues, is it enough to keep the team together beyond the trade deadline? Sadly, I believe the answer is no. Report: Phillies to Pitch Hamels $130 Million Deal

(AP) Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says he’s hearing rumblings the Phillies will over Cole Hamels a contract of $130 million over six seasons in a last-ditch effort to keep him before the trade deadline. Heyman said previously the Phillies would offer $120 million, but that seemed a little low by my calculations. From Heyman: Cain signed a $112.5-million, five-year extension this...

Monday Trade Rumors: Shane Victorino, Matt Garza

Here are a few updates on the trade front, via MLBTR. **The Pirates were one of six teams scouting Matt Garza this weekend, according to ESPN Chicago’s Doug Padilla. I wouldn’t read much in to it other than due diligence. There’s usually a big gap between scouting a player and trying to trade for him. It’s also important to note that Garza was going up against Arizona. So...

Phils Win Series, Hamels Earns 11th Victory of the Season

Final: Phillies 5, Rockies 1. WP: Cole Hamels (11-4, 3.07 ERA) LP: Drew Pomeranz (1-4, 3.79 ERA) One at a time. If the Phillies keep that motto in their heads and produce on the field, getting a spot in the 2012 postseason will start to get more likely to achieve. Cole Hamels lasted eight strong innings, allowing just one run, as the Phillies offense clicked against 23 year-old Drew...

New York Yankees Eye-Balling Upton, Victorino

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that two players the Yanks could be targeting are Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton and...

Yankees Will Also Monitor the OF Market

From Jon Heyman:The Yankees are looking harder at the outfield market than the pitching market, as they still have concerns about Brett Gardner's elbow situation. They've talked to the Phillies about Shane Victorino and the Diamondbacks about Justin Upton, but Upton is a major long shot for them and right now they see the price tag as too high on either. Victorino may...

With their fourth straight win, a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the latest news out of Phillies camp, they could be buyers, or do nothing, as the trade deadline approaches.
