Seattle Mariners right-hander Carter Capps threw his first major league pitch Friday night in Yankee Stadium. New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin was at the plate. The pitch was clocked at 100 mph. The American League better get used to seeing that kind of heat. Ever since Capps, a third-round pick out of North Carolina's Mount Olive College in 2011, made the jump from starting to relieving, he's thrown nothing but gas. He was a starter who threw hard, but he didn't start clocking triple digits until the Mariners moved him into the bullpen, where this season he led all Seattle minor-leaguers with 19 saves while posting a 1.26 ERA in 50 innings. In his last 29 appearances, he allowed just two runs in 37 1/3 innings, a 0.48 ERA. Capps, 21, is just the second player from the 2011 draft to make it to the big leagues after the Diamondbacks' Trevor Bauer, who debuted in June. The right-hander wound up giving up a hit to Martin and a walk while getting one out...

Mariners hope new game plays as well on the road

The new-look Mariners finally found a way to win at home. They are coming off their first eight-win homestand in more than a decade. It remains to be seen if they can carry that momentum over into a nine-game trip that starts in Yankee Stadium on Friday. There seems to be a turnaround in the offense that bodes well. Through July 15, the team was averaging .196 at Safeco Field...

"At the first moment when they trade me, I don't want to come here," Guillen said Friday, after the Fiesta...

Felix in Pinstripes? Never!, He Says

After about 5 innings of flailing at Felix’s changeup (“It defies science,” Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan insists), Yankee fans stopped waiting for the King to tire and just started drooling, the moisture dripping out of their mouths outflowing the sweat pouring from their brows on this hot, humid afternoon.Needless to say, afterwards in the Mariners locker room a New York...

Here come the brides: The Seattle Mariners - who are linked to our hip

Who would have thought the Seattle Mariners would turn into the Yankees' Reverse Flash? Yeesh, everybody on the team is a past or future Yankee. It's like meeting yourself in a crappy time-travel movie. Of course, we all know the Biblical story of Jesus, Hector and the Pinata. Let's not go there. But in another dimension - one where the Higgs Boson is slightly dimmer...
