Weekly St. Louis Cardinals-focused chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in our regular series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.” This time, we discussed the current road trip in Philadelphia, the Washington series ahead and some kid named Oscar Taveras.
Cardinals followers in central Iowa can again catch St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts on KXnO as well as my regular segment each week throughout the season, either over the air or via streaming. Or, if you miss it live, you can always catch the replay right here at The Cardinal Nation blog.

One of Major League Baseball’s most reliable set up men in 2012 was Mitchell Boggs. The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander led the National League with 34 holds, setting a Cardinals team record in the process.
His 17.1 percentage of inherited runners scoring was seventh-lowest in the league and his ERA of 2.21 was sixth-best. Boggs had one streak of over two months, covering 23...
St. Louis Cardinals' third baseman David Freese will always be a hero in the city of St. Louis thanks to his Game 6 heroics in the 2011 World Series. The local kid from Wildwood, Missouri will forever be a Cardinal legend, no matter what he does for the rest of his career in a Cardinals' uniform. Even if Freese struggles and never repeats that success, nobody in St. Louis...
No one would blame you if you forgot Joe Kelly was on the St. Louis Cardinals' roster. While most of the bullpen has been well exposed already in this season, Kelly hasn't seen the mound since April 15th when he pitched two scoreless frames against Pittsburgh. While Kelly hasn't been as sharp in 2013 as he was in 2012, he also hasn't been given as many chances, having...
St. Louis Cardinals switch-hitting right fielder Carlos Beltran started the season a bit slowly. The 36-year old, who starred for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, had been nursing a broken toe that not only seemed to limit him in the field, but at the plate as well.
If Beltran's recent performance at the plate is any indication, his toe seems to be doing much...
One of the challenges in trying to have a general, but meaningful discussion of bunting by the St. Louis Cardinals – or any other Major League Baseball team for that matter – is a lack of good data. While play-by-play detail from every game exists, how might that huge volume of raw data be mined for this specific information?
I asked researcher Tom Orf that question, and is seemingly...
Things are settling in nicely here at the Closer Report. We’re starting to get some clarity on jobs as manager’s back new closers and incumbents pitch and solidify their status.
St. Louis Cardinals
Edward Mujica has charged into the lead of the bullpen race in St. Louis. Mitchell Boggs has been inconsistent at best. Trevor Rosenthal has been electric, but hittable. Mujica has...
Lance Lynn threw one-hit ball for seven innings and Carlos Beltran homered for the third straight game to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.
Lynn (3-0) did not allow a hit until John Mayberry Jr., led off the fifth with a double. Lynn struck out eight and walked three in his longest outing of the season.
Six veterans from outside the St. Louis Cardinals system have contributed to Memphis’ good start.
Carlos Beltran hit his third home run of the series in the fifth inning. The Phillies used a big inning of Friday night to coast to a win. On Saturday, it was the Cardinals doing the same. Backed by a solid pitching performance from Lance Lynn, the Cardinals jumped on...
(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back, while the Philadelphia Phillies' performance seemed to suggest that the previous game was little more than an aberration.
Philadelphia will turn to Kyle Kendrick as it tries to salvage a four-game split Sunday night at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
The Cardinals (10-7) rebounded from an 8-0 loss Friday for a 5-0 win on Saturday, led by...

A day after being shutout and managing only three hits against the Cardinals, the Phillies are tasked with solving Jake Westbrook tonight, who has yet to give up an earned...
Philadelphia Phillies (6-10) vs St. Louis Cardinals (9-6)
Roy Halladay (1-2, 7.63) vs Jaime Garcia (1-0, 1.86)
Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather:70′s, chance of rain/storms

Tonight should be fun. Jaime Garcia (7 IP, 0 R in his last outing) is on the mound for the Cardinals, and he’s had success (2.30 ERA) against the Phillies in...
As the reigning Cy Young award winner and having been through the
arbitration process twice already, the Tampa Bay Rays' David Price is
getting expensive. He is already earning $10 million this year and can
be expected to double that over his next two arbitration years.
this means is that the Rays, as is their M.O., will probably look to
trade Price, maybe as soon...
