Weekly St. Louis Cardinals-focused chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in our regular series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.” This time, we discussed the successful, just completed road trip on the east coast as well as the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati series ahead.
Cardinals followers in central Iowa can again catch St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts on KXnO as well as my regular segment each week throughout the season, either over the air or via streaming. Or, if you miss it live, you can always catch the replay right here at The Cardinal Nation blog.

Some sports writers and a good number of St. Louis Cardinals’ fans
have started to wonder what’s wrong with Allen Craig? The man is healthy, he
appears in nearly every game, and yet he just can’t seem to hit a home run to
save his life. The team, the fans, and sports writers all expect good things
out of Craig. Maybe he should be flattered that they are so concerned.
MLB News: On Friday the St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of infielder Jermaine Curtis of Triple-A Memphis to take the spot of first baseman Matt Adams who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle.
Fantasy Ramifications: Curtis has no fantasy value unless you are looking for a part time player who has a solid batting average and nothing...
Jonathan Sanchez issued a major league-leading 96 walks in 2010, so he has a reputation of being a bit wild. The league obviously feels there was more than a lack of control involved in Friday’s incident.
Sanchez has been suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for throwing at Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig in the first inning of Friday night’s game...
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 Friday, but they had to survive another bad performance from reliever Mitchell Boggs while Joe Kelly once again proved he should be used more often.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny didn’t give Boggs a chance to completely blow the 5-1 lead he had when he entered the game to start the eighth inning, but he did load the bases...
Rookie Matt Adams of the St. Louis Cardinals, who is batting .542 in eight games, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Adams hasn't played since he had two hits in a 7-3 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday. He was scratched from Monday's game at Washington after complaining of soreness.
The 24-year-old Adams has three home runs, eight RBIs...
The St. Louis Cardinals added a relative unknown to their roster on Friday. Who is he and why might be be in the majors?
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed infielder Matt Adams on the disabled list due to an oblique injury, according to Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Earlier this week, it appeared that the St. Louis Cardinals
could enter the trade market early in order to upgrade their bullpen. However,
Cardinals’ relievers have improved over the past week, and general manager John
Mozeliak told reporters – including John Paul Morosi of FOX Sports – that the
team isn’t going to look into acquiring bullpen help from outside the
St. Louis Cardinals reliever Marc Rzepczynski goes by the nickname "Scrabble," and it's no surprise why.
In a league that has, in recent years, seen a Grudzielanek, a Mientkiewicz, a Samardzija, a Pierzynski, a Francoeur and a Nieuwenhuis, among others, Rzepczynski's name may be the toughest to spell of them all.
Just how difficult is it to spell Rzepczynski?...
(AP) -- Following impressive wins in their respective road series, the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates appear to be playing with some confidence as they open a three-game set.
Right-hander Lance Lynn will try to build on an outstanding performance and pitch the Cardinals to a fourth straight win Friday night when they host the Pirates, who are also trying to extend their...
It makes most sense to start with Adam Wainwright when examining results thus far. I must admit, I was left scratching my head a little bit when Wainwright’s extension was announced… it seemed a year or two too long, and last year was good but not great. But all doubts have been silenced with his start to the 2013 season. It already looks like his teammates will be hard pressed...
ST. LOUIS (AP) Lance Lynn pitched seven innings of one-run ball to extend his winning streak to nine games and Carlos Beltran homered from both sides of the plate and drove in three runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 9-1 win over Pittsburgh on Friday night in a game that saw two Pirates and their manager ejected.
Matt Carpenter and Beltran started the game with home runs...
(AP) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates' A.J. Burnett was at his best against the St. Louis Cardinals last week, but his most recent outing at Busch Stadium was definitely one to forget.
The veteran right-hander seeks a better performance in St. Louis on Saturday as he faces the only team he's beaten this season, looking to prevent the Cardinals from matching their longest win streak...
Jonathan Sanchez is in the bullpen today. The fact that he is still on this team is outrageous to me. Not only is he terrible, he completely screwed the bullpen for the rest of this series. Sanchez should not get another start. Sanchez should not have the opportunity to stay on as a reliever. Phil…
Ho hum. Another series win for the Blazin’ Buccos. What’s most surprising? The Division standings? The fact that the Pirates have taken care of some of the best pitchers in the league? Or is it the fact that they have the best TOOTBLAN differential in the league? Whatever makes your leg tingle just go with it.…
