My Sports Rumors:
The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten tired of waiting for starting pitcher Lance Lynn to turn things around. The team removed Lynn from the starting rotation today after lasting only two innings last night. They’ve decided he’ll pitch out of the bullpen, his role in 2011. Based on his performance over the last couple months I can’t say I blame them for the move.
@dgoold: Joe Kelly will move into rotation for next start. Lynn moved to relief. Will need few days to be available. Players told today.
Lynn started off on fire almost making people forget about Chris Carpenter, as the season has progressed though that’s changed. Lynn still sports an ERA under four but he’s become wildly inconsistent. In June he had a 5.67 ERA, July was 2.63 and he finished August with a 6.56. For a team trying to hold onto a playoff spot he just can’t be trusted.
Joe Kelly has started 12 of 14 games this season and has been a solid performer. He was just removed from the rotation himself because Jaime Garcia returned from the disabled list, not because of performance. He’s 4-5 but has an ERA of 3.26, striking out 55 batters over 71 innings. As a back end of the rotation guy he should be just fine.
