It’s usually well past this point in the year when the complete look of any part of a team is known. However, without some highly unlikely maneuver or another freakish injury before April, the St. Louis Cardinals have aligned their pitching staff completely in mid-December. With the signing of left-handed reliever JC Romero last Thursday, the last remaining question of what direction the team would go in off the mound was resolved. However, with this scene most likely set, how good of an offering will the team really put forward?  On one half of the board, we’ve been here before. At this same point last season, Jake Westbrook was resigned and it essentially locked the starting rotation before the calendar year rolled over. However, that theory was thrown out the window in the first week of the season when Adam Wainwright tore his elbow apart in before the first Spring Training lineup was even posted, and threw the staff out of slots that they never really recaptured even by the pos...

Cardinals Winter Warm-Up autograph prices up selectively

Every year at this time, I receive the autograph details for the St. Louis Cardinals Winter Warm-Up. The fan event is always held over Martin Luther King weekend, this time from Saturday, January 14 through Monday, January 16. In my annual just-for-fun endeavor, I look at rising and falling autograph prices from year to year. These are set by someone within the Cardinals hierarchy...

Craig hoping for speedy recovery

ST. LOUIS If Allen Craig can get pinch-hit go-ahead RBI singles in back-to-back World Series games and hit a pair of key home runs to help the Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers, imagine what he could do with two healthy knees. Back in St. Louis Saturday to sign autographs at a memorabilia signing in Clayton, Craig took time to chat with FOXSportsMidwest.com about his November surgery...

The Cardinal Nation Blog 2011 top story #16: Out went the old in the pen

Not unlike many major league clubs, the St. Louis Cardinals entered the 2011 season with a mix of veterans and less-experienced relievers. Though the four vets were expected to anchor the pen, they ended up dragging their own anchors and soon moved on. The group of now-ex-Cardinals in the opening day bullpen included Ryan Franklin and Trever Miller, both 38, and Miguel Batista...

Who Will Play Center in St. Louis?

Does anyone want to go to St. Louis? After losing Albert Pujols to the Los Angeles Angels, it was unclear how the reigning champs would respond this off-season. Instead of going after the other marquee free-agents, the Cardinals appear to be shoring up their team through smaller moves. With the uncertainty surrounding Allen Craig — who had knee surgery in November — the...

Free chances to win Cardinals spring training package

Earlier this month, I made a post in support of a great cause, the St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer. The group is running a series of raffles to raise funds for charities focused on cancer research, prevention and care. Since then, I learned the entry deadline has been extended through the end of the year. Better yet, I have been given a total of 12 raffle entries to be...

Cardinals Talk With Coco Crisp

Looks like the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t putting all their eggs in the Carlos Beltran basket. Multiple reports today say the Cards have held discussions with free agent Coco Crisp. There’s no deal imminent as it is simply what the reports said, discussions. @HensonYahoo: The Cardinals are in discussions to sign Coco Crisp to play CF and bat at the top of the order...
