The Cardinal Nation blog:
St. Louis Cardinals
The two MLB leagues having different numbers of teams, 16 in the National League and 14 in the American, meant interleague play was never symmetric. Being in the oddball six-team NL Central often meant the St. Louis Cardinals were in the midst of the resulting scheduling irregularities.
This season is no different. When the Cardinals take the field in Detroit Tuesday night, they will be the last NL team to play a road interleague game this season. With it comes their first opportunity to deploy the designated hitter.
The Cardinals plan to shift the responsibility among several fatigued and banged up players, including Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig. It wouldn’t be crazy if Yadier Molina or even Rafael Furcal might even take a turn at DH, though the expected return of Skip Schumaker from the disabled list will take some pressure off the depleted bench.
Matt Adams seems the most likely recipient of the extra DH-driven at-bats as the extra player most likely to be...

ST. LOUIS Jason Motte knows what the scouting reports say about him.
"I'm a fastball pitcher," Motte said.
But that doesn't mean he plans to change anything.

A number of St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguers have been released, retired or are unsigned after having been reported as signed. Injury and position change news is also included.
I’ve been looking at the total runs that the Cardinals have scored and allowed to see if there are trends that impact the team. You can see from the numbers that there is a certain line where the team goes from winning to losing.
The Cardinals have a run differential of +53 (tied for first in the NL with the Dodgers), which is exceptional. Their high point was...
DETROIT (AP) -- Jake Westbrook pitched his first complete game in over two years, giving up only an unearned run in the St. Louis Cardinals' 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.
Westbrook (6-6) allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one. It was his 14th career complete game, but his first since May 16, 2010, when he was pitching for Cleveland at Baltimore...

Prior to the game in San Diego, Reebok asked Montgomery and another Reebok representative, St. Louis Cardinals catcher Tom Pagnozzi, if they would take part in a publicity stunt.
