The strength of the St. Louis Cardinals run in September and in the playoffs in 2011 was their overpowering, consistent, and stellar bullpen. In 2012, the bullpen has been anything but.
The Cardinals bullpen allowed three earned runs in just two innings, including a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Fernando Salas and Sam Freeman, to allow the Miami Marlins to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3.
The loss ends a Cardinals five game winning streak and the bullpen helped waste an outstanding effort by rookie Joe Kelly.
Kelly, who helped the Cardinals win Monday night's game with Miami with a pinch-hit, infield single, tossed six very solid innings and left the game with a 3-2 lead.
