St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski was scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Miami Marlins, but he won't be able to after suffering a freak eye injury during a round of golf FridayRzepcynski's injury was sustained when he took a swing and launched something that got lodged into his eye. An acorn, rock, or some other form of projectile is suspected to be the culprit. On his second shot on the first hole of a round of golf, Rzepczynski attempted to punch shot around a tree. He made the shot and collapsed, his eye struck and bruised by something. The golf ball traveled far enough that he is unsure how it could ricochet off the tree and his eye and still carry into the fairway. He is unsure if something else was hit by the club and damaged his eye.By Friday night, Rzepcynzki had a black eye. A doctor advised the southpaw to take it easy at home for three days before returning Monday for evaluation. No permanent damage is expected and Rzepcyznki says his eye is "getting better by the hour.""It's a freak, freak, freak thing," Rzepczynski added.Via St. Louis Post-Dispatch
