St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller was scratched from a scheduled throwing session on Thursday after experiencing shoulder soreness. While this was immediate cause for concern, Miller has been cleared to resume throwing on flat ground and could return to workouts Friday morning, according to Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Miller said he is now feeling “100 percent” after experiencing shoulder discomfort earlier in the week. He received several treatments for his ailing arm, including anti-inflammatory medication and vigorous stretching of the joint. The soreness surfaced after Miller’s first appearance against hitters this spring. Miller is currently competing for the No. 5 spot in the Cardinals’ starting rotation. While St. Louis already has a projected staff that includes Adam Wainwright, Jaime Garcia, Jake Westbrook and Lance Lynn, Chris Carpenter’s injury issues opened the door for a competition between Miller and Trevor...
