St. Louis Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia last was seen on the mound in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals. Garcia lasted just two innings and came under fire after it was revealed that Garcia did not tell manager Mike Matheny or any of the coaching staff that he was not one hundred percent before taking the hill.
Garcia was then removed from the roster after an MRI revealed a strain in his pitching shoulder.
After three visits to different doctors after the season ended, Garcia got the answer he wanted to hear and has foregone surgery in hopes to make a recovery and be ready for the start of spring training.
Now, Garcia is prepared to pitch for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic this spring.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said he was encouraged with Garcia's willingness to compete in the exhibition, but no final decision has been made on whether the organization will sign-off on Garcia's decision.
