St. Louis Cardinals catchers Yadier Molina and Gerald Laird had an animated argument at the team's hotel in Miami on Wednesday night, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa confirmed that there was an incident but donwplayed it.
"It was a long hot day," the manager told the newspaper. "And when you talk about a long, hot day, there's frustration. But there wasn't anything.
"They hugged each other. They're friends. It's just one of those things that happens. It's a long trip. There was no fight. They just got into an argument a little bit."
The Cardinals traveled after a 10-5 loss at Milwaukee on Wednesday that left them 3 1/2 games out of first place in the National League Central Division.
